for Bishop T. D. Jakes’ New Film
President-elect Barack Obama
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, as part of an
Inauguration for all Americans, the 2009
Presidential Inaugural Committee announced
a series of bipartisan dinners to take place on
Monday, January 19th, the eve of
Inauguration Day.
Each of the three dinners will honor an
American whose lifetime of public service
has been enhanced by a dedication to biparti
san achievement: Senator John McCain,
General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.), and
Vice President-elect Joe Biden. Attending
will be leaders in Congress from both sides
of the aisle and Americans from across the
country of both parties.
On the eve of an historic transfer of
power, the dinners serve to highlight
President-elect Obama's commitment to
renewing America's promise via bipartisan
accomplishment.
"In these times of great challenge and
great change, leadership requires rising
above the same old narrow partisanship,"
said President-elect Obama. "Each of these
distinguished Americans has spent his life in
service to his country, at each and every
moment placing the interests of America
before issues of political party. That is pre
cisely the spirit of common purpose we need
as we begin the work ahead."
The dinners will take place at the
National Building Museum, Union Station
and the Hilton Washington. Tickets are
required and press will be pool only.

WASHINGTON - Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.,
the single largest African-
American women’s organi
zation in the country,
unveils Project ART:
Actively Redefining
Together with the
announcement of its recent
support of the film “Not
Easily Broken,” based on
the novel written by Bishop
T. D. Jakes.
The film, directed by
the critically acclaimed Bill
Duke and starring the very
talented Morris Chestnut
and Taraji P. Henson, was
released on January 9, 2009
and as a component of
Project ART, will be the
Sorority’s first “Delta Red
Carpet” feature film proj
ect.
A major initiative of
the organization, Project
ART has a primary focus of
working internally and col-
laboratively with the
Sorority’s membership and
potential stakeholders in
redefining images of the
African-American commu
nity in all forms of artistic
media. The project pro
motes a collective effort of
the Sorority’s membership
to support positive forms of
entertainment—music,
film, radio, television, visu
al and literary arts—while
expressing concern for
those art forms that promote
harmful messages and nega
tive stereotype.
Akin to and reigniting
Morris Chestnut
the fervor of the Harlem
Renaissance, the Sorority,
lead by newly elected
National President, Cynthia
M. A. Butler-Mclntyre,
views the mission of Project
ART as a re-awakening, re
discovery, restoration, and
reclamation of positive
black images. Through this
initiative, the vision of
Butler-Mclntyre is to pro
actively redefine, together
with industry affiliates
employing and promoting
African-Americans, an
acceptable representation of
black culture in film, music,
television, and various
other performance and liter
ary outlets.
The stance of the
Sorority is clearly conveyed
through Project ART’s three
thrusts:
• Together promoting posi
tive images
• Together supporting
works that uplift our world
• Together challenging
today’s standards
Delta Sigma Theta will
begin internal programming
and immediate mobilization
of its membership, com
prised of over 200,000 pre
dominately African-
American women in the
United States and abroad, in
support of these positive
and acceptable images as
redefined by the Sorority.
Other “Delta Red Carpet”
feature film project
announcements will be
forthcoming.
Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc. was founded
in 1913 on the campus of
Howard University to pro
mote academic excellence;
to provide scholarships; to
provide support to the
underserved; educate and
stimulate participation in
the establishment of posi
tive public policy; and to
highlight issues and provide
solutions for problems in
their communities.
Today Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority has over
200,000 members and over
900 chapters worldwide.
The Sorority uses its Five-
Point Programmatic Thrust
of economic development,
educational development,
international awareness and
involvement, physical and
mental health, and political
awareness and involvement
to create its national pro
grams.
