SSU Runs At Ed
Temple Classic
The Savannah State indoor
track team opened the 2009
portion of their schedule by
competing in Tennessee
State's Ed temple Classic on
January 11 in Nashville, TN.
Although no Tigers won any
events, SSU had a combined
14 top 10 finishes. Sadie
Sellow was second in the
women's one mile run while
Tyrone McCoy (one mile
ran) and Chris Blount (triple
jump) claimed third place in
their respective events.

New Jersey Tech overcame a
10-point first half deficit
with two big runs in the sec
ond period to post a 65-56
win over Savannah State in
Tiger Arena on January 11.
NJIT had a 15-4 run early in
the second half and finished
the game with a 14-5 spurt.
SSU (3-12) was led by
Raven Fields and Lashara
Smith who scored 12 points
each. The Lady Tigers lost
at Bethune-Cookman on Jan.
5 by a score of 61-46. The
Walter Moore
Wildcats out-rebounded SSU
56 to 39 and had a 13-0 run
the first half. Smith, who
hails from Daytona Beach,
led SSU with 17 points and
nine rebounds.
Late Run Pushes
Cowboys Over
Savannah State
Oklahoma State used a 15-0
run to hold off a pesky
Savannah State squad in a
83-56 win in Stillwater, OK
on January 6. Before OSU's
run, the Tigers trailed by 16
but the run was too much to
overcome in the end.
Although SSU made 23
turnovers, they won the
rebounding battle, 39 to 31.
Chris Linton led the Tigers
(7-8) with 16 points and six
rebounds. Rashad Hassan
added 12 points while Raye
Bailey scored 11.
