presents 6th Meritorious
Service Awards Luncheon

Callen Boys & Girls Club
Alumni and Friends
Association will sponsor
their 6th annual appreciation
luncheon. The honorees for
2009 are Lawrence Hutchins,
Richard "Foster" Singleton,
Mrs. Lois Wooten and the
Unique Dolls Socia/Civic
Club.
This luncheon represent
an effort by those who were
served and were aided,
tremendously, by volunteers
and certain staff members, to
say "Thank you!"
You are urged to come
and share this celebration
with us. You will be very
impressed with the signifi
cant contributions these indi
viduals made in support of
the boys and girls at the Club.
The luncheon will be held in
the beautiful Eden Room at
The Temple of Glory

Successful Sweater Drive

who donated sweaters during
its sweaters drive in
December 2008. Many beau
tiful and decorative sweaters
for boys, girls, men and
women were donated.
The sweaters were
given to Greenbriar
Children's Center, Inc., 3709
Hopkins Street and to the
Inner City Night Shelter, 124
Arnold Streel in Savannah.

Elementary

Prep Elementary School on
Tuesday, January 27 from
7:00 till 9:00 p.m. Our focus
will be showing parents how
to encourage higher order
thinking skills in a fun man
ner. We will meet in the gym
for an introduction by our
principal, Ms. Oliver.
Afterwards parents will have
the opportunity to move
through two of seven high
interest stations- writing and
rap, hands on science, com
munity resources, math and
grocery shopping, integrat
ing art, music, and PE with
academics, and newspapers
in education. Parents will
leave with a list of activities
and games as well as a full
stomach.
Hot dogs, potato chips
and drinks will be served at
8:40.
Baby sitting is avail
able.

Section Seeks Former
Members
The National Council
of Negro Women is diligent
ly seeking all persons who
were members of the
Savannah Section to be part
of a special unity celebra
tion. On February 28, 2009
at 9:00 am, NCNW
Savannah Section will host a
special Harambee Breakfast
at the Ralph Mark Gilbert
Civil Rights Museum
Multipurpose Annex cele
brating fifteen years of the
Section's existence in
Savannah.
In commemoration of
fifteen years, NCNW
Savannah Section will honor
Chartered Members, Life
and Legacy Life Members
and the Section's organizer.
A pictorial souvenir book
with photographs of mem
bers and former members
will be published. The
keynote speaker for the occa
sion is Lois Keith, National
Membership Chair from
Atlanta, Georgia.
The Savannah Section
invites the community to
come and join the celebra
tion. Tickets are $20 and may
be purchased at Lester's
Florist, The Savannah Herald

Fort Pulaski National Monument to hosts
Meet and Greet with Mickles and Brown

20"' Annual Savannah Black
Heritage Festival, Fort
Pulaski National Monument
will host a special meet and
greet with local author
Robert Mickles and histori
an
Johnny Brown on Sunday,
February 1, 2009.
Robert Mickles, author
of Blood Kin and Isaiah’s
Tears, along with Johnny
Brown, conductor of
Savannah Freedom Tours,
will meet with the public to
discuss the African-
American experience during
the Civil War, as well as
relating their own family
ties during this period. The
discussion
will take place inside Fort
Pulaski National
Monuments’s auditorium,
located inside the park’s vis
itor center, from 1:30-
4:30pm. A book signing will
immediately follow. Don’t
miss an opportunity to meet
these accomplished
Savannah historians.
The Savannah Black
Heritage Festival runs from
January 30th-February 15th.

open 9-5 daily; park gates
