Celebrates 94 th Anniversary

This February,
Thankful Missionary Baptist
Church will be celebrating
its 94 th Church Anniversary.
Services will be Monday,
February 2 to Wednesday,
February 4, 7:00p.m.
Visiting churches are:
Monday, Pastor Larry
Broxton and Christ
Memorial Baptist; Tuesday,
Pastor Keith Bruen and 1st
Friendship Baptist; and
Wednesday, Pastor Michael
Stamps and Mt. Zion
Baptist.
On Saturday February
7, 12 noon, we will have an
Anniversary Luncheon at
Ralph Mark Gilbert Museum
Arena. Performing a one-
women show will be Fracena
Byrd Dolan of Atlanta, Ga.
Mrs. Dolan is a former mem
ber of Thankful. She is a
Dr. Frederick A. Fearbry
2000 graduate of Savannah
Arts Academy and a 2004
graduate of Spelman College
with a B.A. in
Theatre/Drama Arts. Fracena
has worked with Georgia
region of Kaiser Permanente
Educational Theatre
Program. This fall, she was
in The True Story of the
Three Little Pigs at Theatre
in the Square in Marietta,
Ga. Tier one-woman show on
the 7th will be “Growing up
in Thankful.”

The Reverend Robert T.
Solomon is a native of
Savannah and the son of Mrs.
Edith Solomon and the late
Mr. Jimmy Fennell. He was
educated in the Chatham
County Public School system
and is a graduate of
Savannah High School. He
earned his Bachelor's Degree
from Tuskegee University, a
Masters Degree from Troy
State University and he also
attended Calvary Bible
Institute in Washington, DC.
Upon graduating from
Tuskegee University, Rev.
Solomon was commissioned
as an officer in the U.S.
Army.
Rev. Solomon's mater
nal grandparents are Mrs.
Ruth Ellison and Deacon
Rev. Robert T.
and Linda Solomon.
James Morris (Evang. Ann
Morris), his paternal grand
parents are the late Rev. John
and Laura Fennell.
Rev. Solomon is mar
ried to the former Ms. Linda
E. Edgar (from Germany).
He is a step-father of four
children; Jessica DeCorse
(Nicholas), Stacy Edgar
(Lori), Steven Edgar
(Karissa) and Michael Edgar
and the grandfather of two
children Nicky and Jasmine
DeCorse.
These services will take
place, Sunday, February 01,
2009, 4pm at the First
African Baptist Church of
East Savannah., Rev. Dr.
Thomas E. Williams, Pastor.

witnessed the plant
ing of a bald cypress tree to
honor deceased members.
Among those remem
bered was former Pastor L.
S. Stell. His sons, Rev. Louis
Stell and Rev. Larry Stell were
among the witnesses.
The anniversary cele
bration will continue with a
Gala at the Desoto Hilton,
January 30, 7:00 p.m. The
nightly services will be,
February 3-5 at 7:00 p.m.
and culminate February 8,
10:00 a. m.
The theme for this
momentous occasion is, 150
Years - Remembering,
Rejoicing, Rededicating.
The 7:00 p.m. nightly
service guest churches are:
Tuesday, Feb. 3, Connors
Temple, Rev. Bennie
Mitchell; Wednesday, Feb. 4,
Bishop Matthew Odum; and
Thursday, Feb. 5, Christ
Memorial, Rev. Larry

remembrance ceremony
titled, “Remembrance...Lest
We Forget” in support of the
first responders, injured and
lost workers, and their fami
lies on the first anniversary
of the Sugar Refinery Blast.
The tribute is scheduled
for Thursday, February 5,
2009 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00
p.m. at St. Philips
Monumental AME Church,
located at 1112 Jefferson
Street, Savannah, GA 31401.
This first annual tribute
is being held to honor the vic
tims who were injured or lost
in the massive sugar refinery
explosion and recognize the
vital support of ministers and
pastors in helping the fami
lies cope with the tragedy.
The tribute will begin
with an original musical
selection composed by Brim
Audio to memorialize the
tragedy followed by an invo
cation, scripture reading,
candle lighting, and reading
of the names of injured and
fallen workers. The ceremo
ny will conclude with closing
prayers.
The public is invited to
show support and remem
brance as we honor the first
responders, injured and lost
workers, and their families.
