sor a Literary Cafe on
Sunday, April 19, 2009 -
5:00P.M. - at the Savannah
Ballroom, King-Frazier
Student Center - Savannah
State University.
“Diversity of the Arts”
is the theme.
The program will
include performances by
Savannah State University
Concert Choir, Savannah
High School Blue Note Jazz
Band, Juanita Tucker, Leah
Hannon, The Spoken Word,
Creative Dance Solo by
Damilolo Adeyemo and a
Poetic Presentation by
Aiesha Reeves, and national-
ly-Known storyteller J'Miah
Nabawi.
For the visual arts
enthusiasts, an ebony pencil
framed sketch of sketch of
President Barack Obama,
donated to Delta by the artist,
Desmond Jackson, will be
auctioned at the event. Other
pieces the artist's works will
be on display for viewing.
For the more than twen
ty years that J'miah Nabawi
has been performing, his
work has not gone unappre
ciated and unnoticed.
In In 2006, evoca.com
nominated J'miah for a
National Storytelling
Network (NSN) ORACLE
Award for Leadership and
Service, Southeast Region
for which he received with
community, organizational,
city, and legislative support
from his Savannah, GA com
munity.
A 2007 NEA-supported
Georgia Council for the Arts
(GCA) Traditional Arts
Apprenticeship (TAA) grant
was given to him as a master
artist; and, in 2008, a GCA
panel of his peers appoint
ment him to the GCA
Traditional Artists roster that
won him a nomination for
the Southern Arts
Federation's Artistry
Registry.
J’Miah Nabawi is no
stranger to Savannah. Best
known for his work with
children, J’Miah has been
featured at Savannah Music,
Festival, Live Oak Public
Libraries reading events, and
makes regular appearances
in Savannah-Chatham
County Public Schools. He
has written and published
several books.
