the Savannah Chapter of The
Links, Incorporated recog
nized Dr. Vicky Bryant, prin
cipal, Thunderbolt
Elementary School, along
with her faculty and staff for
having been designated a
2009 “Magnet School of
Marilyn Jenkins, Savannah Cha
and Beverly Ifill.
Excellence” by the Magnet
Schools of America.
A recognition plaque
was presented by Savannah
Chapter president, Mrs.
Virginia Edwards to Dr.
Bryant, and a reception was
hosted by members of The
Links.

The Savannah Chapter
has an ongoing program
underway at Thunderbolt,
where there is emphasis
given monthly on healthy
eating, writing, and activi
ties, which address a state
and national concern regard
ing childhood obesity.
Thompson Spotlighted on
CollegeBound Foundation Website
Rashad Thompson
Rashad Thompson, a
native of Savannah, was
recently spotlighted on the
Collegebound Foundation
website as a scholar spotlight.
Thompson, who
presently resides in Baltimore
Maryland, attends Thurgood
Marshall High School, and is
captain of the varsity football
team. Thompson, according
to the site is described as a
team player on and off the
field.
Thompson dreams of
playing football professional
ly, but knows he must obtain
an education first.
He has applied to
Virginia State University,
Morgan State University, and
Fayettville State University,
and intends to major in
Culinary Arts and Business.
Thompson is the son of
Ms. LaTonya Thompson of
Baltimore Maryland, and is
the grandson of Ms. Carlotta
Thompson, and Mr. Horace
Thompson, both of
Savannah.
Rashad is a member of
the United House of Prayer
for All People.
CollegeBound came
into existence as an inde
pendent, non-profit program
designed to work exclusively
with city students to help
them achieve a post-second
ary education.

Zyon Jordan "ZJ"
Smiley of Boy Scout Troop
222 earned his Life Scout
rank on Tuesday, March 31,
2009.
He also earned his
Citizenship of the World
Badge on Tuesday.
ZJ is a member of the
Order of the Arrow Scouting
National Society.
He is currently working
on his Eagle Scout rank.

This year's third contestant is
Anitra Williams. She is a
graduate of Windsor Forest
High School and is a native
of Savannah. Anitra has
obtained a Bachelor's of
Business Management and
Masters of Public
Administration from
Savannah State University.
Ms. Williams is a lifetime
member of Resurrection of
Our Lord Catholic Church
where she serves as a trustee.
She is very active in her
church and community
where she volunteers in
many capacities.
Anitra is currently employed
with the Savannah-Chatham
Board of Education as a
Career and Technical
Education teacher at Sol C.
Johnson High School.
In addition to her
teaching duties, Anitra gives
countless hours to many
extracurricular activities
throughout the school.
She has served as advi
sor to the Future Business
Leaders of America, and
DECA. She also serves on
the board of advisors for the
Jobs for Georgia Graduates.
Proceeds from this
event support the Mu Phi
Chapter's scholarship fund
and other programs such as
American Diabetes and the
St. Paul Boys and Girls
Academies.
