New Era Baptist Convention to hold
Mother’s Day Banquet
The New Era Baptist
Convention of Georgia will
sponsor a Mother's Day
Banquet on Saturday, May 2,
2009.
The event will be held
at Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil
Rights Museum, 460 Martin
Luther King, Jr. Blvd., at
6:30 p.m. Donation for the
banquet is $40.00
We have four of our
mothers vying for Mother of
the Year.
She will also represent
the Southern Region during
our annual session in
November as Queen of the
Southern Region.
Mothers vying for the
title of Mother of Year are:
Ruth Bostick - Bethlehem
Baptist Church - Dr. Wilson
Scott, Pastor
Sis. Bostick is the mother of
two sons, the grandmother of
six and the great grandmoth
er of one. She is past presi
dent and treasurer of the
Southern Region and served
as Queen of the New Era
State Convention several
times.
Mattie Holmes - Brownsville
Baptist Church - Dr. Wymon
Hodges, Pastor
Sis. Holmes is the mother of
seven children and the
grandmother of 13. She has
worked untiring with the
Southern Region. Sis.
Holmes is the reigning
Queen of the Southern
Region.
Emogene Stroman
Middleton - First Bryan
Baptist Church - Rev.
Edward Ellis, Pastor
Sis. Middleton is the mother
of three children and the
grandmother of eight. She
was the first female superin
tendent of First Bryan and
has represented First Bryan
at four Progressive National
Baptist Conventions.
Geraldine Taylor - Second
Ebeneezer Baptist Church -
Rev. Ricardo Manuel, Pastor
Sis. Taylor is the mother of
four children, the grand
mother of 16 and the great
grandmother of 15. She has
been a part of the Southern
Region for over 30 years and
currently serves as the finan
cial secretary.
The speaker for this
great occasion is Juanita
Jackson Adams.
Sis. Adams is a dynam
ic and powerful speaker.
We invite each of you
to come out and share in this
great celebration.
Dea. Robert Bess is
chair and Sis Lorraine
Mitchell is president of the
Southern Region.

Savannah Tourism Council to hold
Annual Awards Dinner
The Savannah Area
Tourism Leadership Council
will host their 11th Annual
Tourism Awards &
Scholarship Dinner on
Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at
the Savannah Marriott
Riverfront.
A silent auction and
cocktail reception will begin
at 5:30 p.m. and conclude
just before dinner, which
begins at 7pm.
Tickets for dinner are
$55. Table sponsorships are
also available.

opportunity for ongoing
growth and development
throughout their careers,”
said Marti Barrow, executive
director of the Savannah

City Manager of the City of
Savannah, respectively.
In addition, the recipi
ents of the Service Star and
Service Leader Awards for
exemplary job performance
in the hospitality industry
will be announced as well as
the Tourism Leadership
Council Member of the Year.
Five scholarships will
also be presented from the
Sheldon Fox Scholarship
Program to students pur
suing culinary, tourism
and hospitality careers.
Sonny Dixon, news
anchor for WTOC-TV,
will serve as emcee for the
evening.
