GLPNA to Host Nurses
Appreciation Program
Machelle Maner
The Georgia Licensed
Practical Nurses Association
(GLPNA) 15 th District
Savannah, will host its 1st
Nurses Appreciation
Program on Saturday, May
16, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at First
African Baptist Church of
East Savannah, located at
402 Treat Avenue.
This year's theme is
Leading Through Service.
All are welcome partic
ularly those whose life has
been touched by the work of
our Nurses.
The speaker for this
event is Machelle Maner.
Machelle is a Savannah
native, and is a proud gradu
ate of Savannah High School
and Savannah State College,
where she received her
degree in marketing and
management.
She is the current Vice
President of Community
Development for Wachovia
Bank, N.A., her region cov
ers southwest Florida.
Wachovia's Community
Development Group is
focused on the strategic
development of public/pri
vate partnerships.
She is responsible for
investments in nonprofit
organizations that focus on
housing, small businesses,
and economic revitalization.
Maner is the current
President of the Board of
Directors of Leadership
Tampa Bay and class
President 2008-2009.
Maner is very active in
the Tampa Bay area fillfilling
her passion of assisting the
underserved.
In addition to her pro
fessional and philanthropic
work she is most important
ly, the mother of the two
beautiful children Tiana and
Tyrone.

Arnold Receives Scholarship to Attend
Wesleyan College
Herschel V. Jenkins
High School senior Marisa
G. E. Arnold has been award
ed the prestigious Mary Knox
McNeill Scholarship from
Wesleyan College.
The premier scholarship
is awarded annually to two
first-year students who have
exhibited outstanding aca
demic achievement along
with a commitment to faith
and community service.
The Scholarship values
$16,000 per year and is
renewable for a maximum of
eight semesters.
Arnold will begin her
studies fall semester 2009
and plans to major in early
childhood education.
She is the daughter of
Maurice Arnold, Sr. and
Gwendolyn E. Arnold of
Savannah.

McNeill Scholarship was
established by the Knox fam
ily to honor the memory of
Mary Knox McNeill, a
woman who joyfully demon
strated her faith through serv
ice to her church, community,
family and friends. She set an
example for the women who
receive this scholarship.
With
fewer than 800 students,
Wesleyan is a special close-
knit community of learners
and leaders, of faculty, staff,
students and alumnae who
share in its special mission.
Wesleyan College
was founded in 1836.
A student-
faculty ratio of 10:1 ensures
that students are known by
more than just a grade or a
number. The acceptance rate
of Wesleyan students into
medical, law, business, and
other graduate programs is
exemplary.

ing for drivers to operate church vans and buses.
Candidates must be at least 21 years old, have a current
valid driver’s license for their state, clean driving
record, and undergo a statewide background check. A
CDL license is required to operate buses.
