On Sunday, May 17,
2009, the Beach Institute
continues its series, Images
of Ourselves: A
Contemporary View with an
exhibit of works by clay
artist and glass blower, Dr.
Clifton Pearson.
The opening reception
will take place at 3pm in the
West Gallery of the Beach
Institute with a gallery talk
by the artist.
Mr. Pearson’s
stoneware designs focus on
the human form and draw
elements from Asian,
African, and European pot
tery and sculpture.
Pearson states, “My
glass works are playful
excursions,” and after thirty-
five years he is, “still fasci
nated and delighted with the
fluidity, color and immediacy
of hot glass.”
For over three decades
his work has been exhibited
in numerous group and solo
exhibitions at museums and
galleries throughout the
Southeastern U.S. Today he
serves as professor and Chair
of the Department of Art at
Montevallo University in
Montevallo, Alabama.
In a continuing effort to
expose local youth to the arts
and the process of working
artists, students from Hodge
and Gadsden Elementary will
participate in a ceramics
workshop lead by Dr.
Pearson. This event is free
and open to the public.
