Local Radio Celebrity Seeks
your Support
I am very blessed to be
able to say, the day is coming
soon. The day that my daughter
Kelly, donates one of her kid
ney’s to me.
As you have heard, I have
Chronic Kidney Disease, which
means, it is a must, that I receive
a new kidney to survive.
I am currently on dialysis,
here in Savannah, awaiting the
big day. Throughout my 35
years in the radio business, I
have tried to help my friends and
associates with ‘■‘their cause”,
now I ask for your help.
The cost of immunosup
pressive medications typically
ranges from $20,00 to $32,000
per year, even with insurance.
I have teamed with the
Georgia Transplant Foundation,
who will match funds raised thru
my fundraising efforts, for this
purpose.
Fundraising for me, is a
matter of quality of life. With this
being said, I ask that you go to
www.gatransplant.org/client/gar
yy and make a generous dona
tion, large or small, it is greatly
appreciated. You can also make
a donation, in the name of the
Gary Young Kidney Fund, at
any Carver State Bank location
in Savannah. Thank you in
advance, for your donation.

Capitol Building
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi,(l), and First Lady Michelle
Obama admire bust of Sojourner Truth.
On April 28, 2009
American history was
made. The National
Congress of Black
Women, Inc. (NCBW)
introduced Sojourner
Truth as the first African
American woman to have
a memorial bust in the
United States Capitol
building amidst hundreds

After nearly a ten
year effort spearheaded
by the late Dr. C. Delores
Tucker, former chair of
NCBW, the memorial has
been completed by current
National Chair, Dr. E. Faye
Williams, Esq. and mem

The Celebration of
Truth campaign included
the unveiling of the
Sojourner Truth bust, a
presentation of "Ain't I A
Woman," by long time
NCBW supporter and
actress, Cicely Tyson.
More than 250
donors, sponsors, guests
and members of NCBW
attended a celebra

Intercontinental
Hotel in
Washington, DC
following the
events at the U.S.
Capitol.
Special music
composed for the
occasion was pro

Spaulding.
"This accomplish
ment has been a struggle,
but at the National
Congress of Black Women,
we have learned that it is
from our struggles that we
gain our victories." says
Dr. E. Faye Williams, Esq.,
National Chair of NCBW.
Her Memorial, the
first to a black woman in
the U.S. Capitol, is a mile
stone, not just for African
