Among the graduates
was Willie L.Gadson, Jr,
who received his bachelor
of science degree in
Business Management.
Willie is the son of Willie,
Sr. and Ida Gadson, the
brother of LaTonya and
LaTosha Gadson, and the
grandson of Mrs. Janie
Lattimore, and the proud
uncle of three, Tyrese
Morris, and TeShawn and
Shaunte Pope.
During the ceremony,
graduates and their families
had the opportunity to hear
from best-selling author and
Savannah resident, Bertice
Berry. Additionally, Chandra
Jones represented students
and spoke on the topic of
overcoming obstacles and
being successful.
Students who have
studied online or attended
the Savannah campus were
recognized. The most popu
lar degree programs among
these graduates are the
Bachelor of Science in
Business/Management and
the Master of Business
Administration.

on May 12 as Dexter
Kelley hit a two-run single
in the 7th inning. The
Tigers lost the first game of
the double-header 5-1. In
the win, Brett Pointer hit a
home run and Tristan
Smith scored twice. In the
first game, SSU made
seven errors and Bucs
pitcher Brandon Roberts
struck out 12 batters. For
the second consecutive
season, SSU ends their sea
son with a losing record.
This year the Tigers were
25-26.
Plump Qualifies For
Track Regional
Savannah State freshman
Eric Plump has qualified
for the NCAA Track
Regional in the men's
200m. The Columbus
native has a qualifying
time of 21.32.The comput
er science major has also
qualified for the USATF
National Junior
Championships in the
200m.
The NCAA Regional will
be May 27-30 in
Greensboro, North
Carolina while the
National Junior
Championships will be
June 25-26 in Eugene,
Oregon. Anyone wishing to
give Plump financial assis
tance with the trips, since
its is not a school spon
sored event, can contact

football, track and cross
country coach Richard
Washington was laid to rest
on May 14. Funeral
Services were at First
Congregational Church on
Habersham Street and
Interment was at Forest
Lawn Cemetery.
Washington was head foot
ball coach at SSU from
1957-63 and had a record
of 22-31-6. He was the
Tigers head track coach
from 1956-72 and in 1985.
Washington was named
“SIAC Track Coach of the
Year” in 1965 and 1966 and
the SEAC SIAC Cross
Country Coach of the Year
in 1971. During his tenure,
the track team won four
conference championships.
Among those at the funeral
were SSU Alumni,
Boosters, former players,
tennis buddies, former co
workers and former SSU
administrators.
Tigers Run At
Georgia Tech
The Savannah State track
team ran at the Georgia
Tech Invitational on May
15-16 in Atlanta. Sharonda
Redfield was 11th in the
women's triple jump and
Eric Plump was 13th in the
men's 200m race.

over the Tampa Bay X-
Factor on May 16 at the
Savannah High Gym. The
Warriors led 16-2 after one
quarter and held a 30-9
halftime advantage. Tampa
Bay made 28 turnovers and
were out-rebounded 60-44.
