The 24th Annual
Conference is scheduled
June 16-20, 2010 at the
Westin Diplomat in Ft.
Lauderdale, Florida.
100 Black Men was
founded as an organization in
New York City in 1963.
The national organiza
tion, 100 Black Men of
America, Inc. began with 10
chapters in 1986 as a nation
al alliance of leading African
American men of business,
public affairs and govern
ment with a mission to
improve the quality of life
for African Americans, par
ticularly African American
youth. The 100 serves as an
international coalition
focused on creating educa
tional opportunities, promot
ing economic empowerment,
addressing health disparities
and creating positive mentor
ing relationships.

Tompkins Class of 1959 holds
50th Class Reunion
Members of the Tompkins Class of
The Tompkins High
School class of 1959 cele
brated its 50th class reunion.
On Wednesday, May
27th, we had a Meet and
Greet session and registra
tion.
Thursday, May 28th, a
teacher's appreciation cere
mony was held with Mr.
Raleigh Bryant, Mrs.
Catherine Dwight Redding
and Mrs. Janie O. Alexander.
Each was given a certificate
of appreciation. A memorial
service was held in remem
brance of our deceased class
mates with family and
friends in attendance.
Friday, May 29th, we
enjoyed a banquet and dance
with the honorable Priscilla
Thomas as the speaker.
On Saturday, May
30th, we met at Skidaway
State Park for a picnic. And
on Sunday, May 31 st, our
activities culminated at St.
John Baptist Church.

Dr. Tessa Smith is the
daughter of Edward and
Theresa Smith of Savannah,
Georgia.
Dr. Smith attended
Pulaski Elementary School,
DeRenne and Bartlett Middle
Schools, and was the
Salutatorian and medical
magnet honor graduate of
Alfred Ely Beach High
School Class of 1997.
From the start of high
school she had the dream to
become a physician. She
received inspiration from her
Pastors, Bishop and Mother
Myles A. Latimer, at Genesis
New Life Apostolic Faith
Church to attend Emory
University in Atlanta,
Georgia.
In accordance with their
vision, she went on to attend
and graduate from Emory
University with a Bachelor
of Science in Biology and
Psychology.
While in college she
studied abroad in Psychology
in Scotland and England dur
ing the summer of 2000.
She also attend four
Summer Student Educational
Enrichment Programs at the
Medical College of Georgia
during high school and
undergraduate.

Dr. Tessa Smith
Also while attending
Emory she participated in
Elementary Science
Education Partners which
was a program that encour
aged hands-on-science edu
cation to stimulate the inter
est of elementary students to
pursue a science career.
During her senior year
at Emory University, Dr.
Smith became a National
Registered Emergency
Medical Technician.
Between college and
medical school she volun
teered with her local chapter
of the American Red Cross
and was trained in providing
family emergency assistance.
She used her EMT cer
tification to work in the
Emergency Department in
both Savannah and Augusta
Georgia.
At the onset of medical
school, she was honored with
the Stoney Medical, Dental,
and Pharmaceutical Society
Scholarship that covered her
tuition for all four years of
medical school.
In the summer of 2003,
she was chosen to participate
in the Mayo Clinic
Preceptorship Program in
Rochester, Minnesota.
She continues to teach
Sunday School at her church
whenever she is in her home
town of Savannah, Georgia.
After graduating from
the Medical College of
Georgia and completing her
residency at Emory
University School of
Medicine, Dr. Smith has
accepted a job position as an
emergency room physician
with an outstanding hospital
to give society the care and
medical needs that they so
