Townsley Unit Recognized for Church
and Community Service
For the second consec
utive year Townsley Chapel
A.M.E. Church in Savannah,
Georgia was named the Sons
of Allen Georgia Conference
2008-2009 Unit of The Year
at this year’s African
Methodist Episcopal Church
Georgia Conference held in
Waycross, Georgia.

church and in our local com
munity.
The unit helped mem
bers of its church obtain fire
alarm systems for their
homes through the Savannah
Fire Department.
The unit transported
veterans from Savannah,
Georgia to the VA Center in
Charleston, South Carolina
for medical appointments
for which the unit’s efforts
were also recognized by the
the U.S. Department of
Veterans Affairs in
Washington, D.C.
The unit sponsored
back to school haircuts for
young men, conducted
blood pressure checks every
first Sunday at its church,
provided and delivered
turkeys to church families in
need and fruit baskets to
church members living in
nursing homes.

attended the Port Wentworth
City Hall meeting June 25th.
Members of the commu
nity are joining forces to
encourage city leaders to bring a
new school to the area.
Local homebuilder, Fred
Williams, has donated 5 acres of
land to West Chatham
Preparatory Academy, a char
ter high school scheduled to
open in the fall of 2010.
