Stiles-Thomas Recognized During

Stiles Thomas-the wife of the
The Rev. David Thomas and
daughter of the late Samuel
L. Stiles and Mrs. Mary
Edythe Stiles.
She graduated from the
University of the South
School of Theology
(Education For Ministry
Program) in Sewanee,
Tennessee on May 31, 2009.
EFM is a four year
course of study using a sem
inary-like curriculum under
the sponsorship of the
Rev. Saundra Stiles Thomas
School of Theology at
Sewanee-an Episcopal
Church Seminary. In
addition to this ministerial
certificate, Rev. Thomas is a
graduate of:
Johnson High School
- Savannah, GA, Honor
Graduate , Fisk University, -
Nashville, TN, B.S. in
Physical Education
Long Island University
- Brooklyn, NY, M.S. in
Health Administration,
Summa Cum Laude
Rev. Thomas was the
first black female nursing
home administrator in this
country at Concord Nursing
Home in Brooklyn, NY,
founded by the well known
clergyman, the Rev. Dr.
Gardner C. Taylor.
She is a licensed
preacher and ordained elder
and has served on the minis
terial staff of the St. Paul
CME church for 12 years.
For the last 18 years,
Rev. Thomas has been
employed as a master cos
metologist at J.C. Penny Co.
in Savannah, GA and a
licensed cosmetology
instructor.

The Rev. Dr. Desmond
M. Walker, Pastor of Butler
Presbyterian Church (USA)
will retire August 31, 2009.
Dr. Walker will be honored
during worship
service on July 26,
2009 at the church
at 11:00 a. m. A
reception will fol
low. The public is
cordially invited to
attend.

year pastorate at
Butler is highlight
ed by his leadership
in re-focusing and
refining the mis
sion.
The church cele
brated its 135th
Anniversary in
2006 Its history, So

Elmore. Under
Dr.Walker's aegis, this
historic church has contin
ued its' long tradition of cul
tural outreach and service
with special emphasis on
proclaiming the Word, offer
ing memorable music featur
ing spiritual growth and
development.
The congregation is
currently engaged in a
Capital Improvement
Campaign designed to
enhance and enrich its mis
sion of Christian charity,
Commitment, and Care.
On May 16, 2009, Dr.
Walker received The Doctor
of Ministry from Columbia
Theological Seminary.
The graduation exer
cise took place at the
Peachtree Presbyterian
Church in Atlanta, GA. Join
