Southside
Fire/EMS/Security held a
grand opening celebration on
July 14, 2009, for its 14th
site known as Station 14 at
2606 East President Street.
Station 14 will cover
the residents of the subdivi
sions on the eastern end of
President Street as well as El
Paso’s Elba Island facility.
It will also back up
Southside’s Station 8 on US
Highway 80 as needed.
The new Station 143
has extra insulation, tank less
water heaters, and energy
efficient appliances as
Southside progresses toward
the ‘‘greening” of public-
safety facilities.
Kern & Coleman
architectural firm were the
final designers and Weimar
Construction handled the
building of the station.
The Station is a perfect
example of private and pub
lic-safety partnership.
In May of 2008, El
Paso and Southside joined
forces to provide increased
safety for the Elba Island
facility and saw as a benefit
the opportunity to provide
fire response and first
response EMS coverage to
the surrounding citizens of
unincorporated Chatham
County.
As good neighbors, El
Paso and Southside part
nered in this public safety
venture to provide a
Fire/EMS Station to the citi
zens surrounding their Elba
Island facility.
In addition, Southside
also provides security for
Elba Island.
Queensborough National Bank and Trust, 216 US Highway 80 at Garden City
Queensborough
National Bank & Trust Co.
will launch its first full service
banking office in the
Savannah market at a grand
opening event on Wednesday,
July 29, 2009.
Located at 216 US
Highway 80 West near Garden
City, the bank will offer busi
ness and consumer deposit
services, loans, mortgages, an
ATM, and a drive-through in
the new location. The bank has
operated a lending office in
Savannah for several years
and will relocate all operations
and staff to the new office.
“This move was a natu
ral expansion for us and one
we had planned for some
time,” Bill Easterlin, President
and CEO of Queensborough
National Bank and Trust.
“Given the challenges in the
banking industry right now, I
think our expansion says a lot
about the strength of our
organization.
The bank has included
many green and sustainable
features in the new building
and will pursue LEED Cl cer
tification.
The Leadership in
Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED) Green
Building Rating System,
developed by the U.S. Green
Building Council (USGBC),
provides a suite of standards
for environmentally sustain
able construction.
The bank also encour
ages clients to use features that
reduce waste and improve
efficiency including paperless
banking, online services, and
remote deposit.
“There are many busi
nesses out there 'going green'
so to speak, but by reusing and
upgrading an existing building
using LEED as the bench
mark, I think we are clearly
demonstrating our commit
ment to sustainability,”
English said.
The event will begin
with a ribbon cutting ceremo
ny at 10:00 a.m. and feature
a variety of giveaways and
free food throughout the day.
