Cheerleading
Coach
Savannah State has hired
Kellie D. Fletcher as the uni
versity’s new cheerleading
coach. The Fort Bragg, North
Carolina native comes to
SSU from CRB Consulting
Engineers where she has
worked since 2007 as a CAD
Designer/Drafter. Fletcher is
a 2007 graduate of North
Carolina A&T where she
earned a bachelor of science
degree in Graphic
Communications Systems
and Technological Studies
(CADD) . She has also
served as a cheer camp
instructor for Champion
Cheerleading Camps in
Raleigh, N.C. from 2003-
2006. Fletcher was a member
of the NCA&T Cheerleading
team from 2003-07 and
served as Captain from 2005-
07. While in college, the
Aggie cheerleaders won three
MEAC Cheerleading
Championships (2004, 05
and 07).
Tigers To Hold
Media Day
Savannah State will hold
their annual football media
day on Friday, August 7 at 3
p.m. in the Tiger Arena
Multipurpose Room. SSU
head coach Robby Wells
along with several current
players will address the
media on the upcoming 2009
season. The team will report
ed to camp on August 4 and
had their first practice (hel
mets, shorts and jersey) on
August 5.
Wife of SSU
Administrator
Passes
The wife of Savannah State
vice president of administra
tion, Dr. Claud Flythe passed
away on July 28 in Mataoca,
Virginia. Funeral services for
Dr. Judy P. Flythe, 63, were
held July 31 at Gillfield
Baptist Church in Petersburg,
VA. Interment was in Parham
Cemetery in Martin,
Tennessee on August 3. J. M.
Wilkerson Funeral
Establishment, Inc. of
Petersburg, VA handled the
arrangements.
Wright Is New SSU
Band Director
Arthur Wright II is the new
director of bands at Savannah
State. Wright replaces Lome
Lee who recently took a posi
tion at Johnson C. Smith.
Wright spent the past six
years as band director at
Richmond Academy High
School in Augusta, GA.
Wright is a graduate of
Charleston Southern and has
a bachelor of arts degree in
music education. While at
CSU, Mr. Wright participated
in several ensembles, includ
ing the CSU Marching Bucs
where he was drum major for
2 years, Wind Ensemble,
Percussion Ensemble, and the
pep band. He is a member of
the Georgia Music Educators
Association (GMEA),
National Education
Association (NEA), Kappa
Kappa Psi National Honorary
Band Fraternity, and Kappa
Alpha Psi Fraternity,
Incorporated.

Ready, Set, Go Back to School
The
Interdenominational
Ministerial Alliance is excit
ed about our mission to
sponsor a Back to School
event for the entire commu
nity.
Our goal is to lend a
helping hand to over 2500
children and families as they
prepare for the 2009-2010
school year.
Ready, Set, Go Back to
School is scheduled for
Saturday, August 15 at 10 am
in the Savannah Civic
Center. This event will have
information for parents and
youth regarding health,
nutrition, safety, school reg
istration, school lunch pro
gram, after school programs,
tutorial also there will be
entertainment and a fashion
show by Macys.
The health department
will provide information for
immunization and CVS dia
betic center will check blood
sugar. We are still inviting
exhibitors to setup a display
booth to provide information
that will benefit our families
and children. The booth set
up fee is $50 for all business
es and free for non-profit
organizations. Deadline for
booths are August 10,
2009.This event is free to the

Whitehead Scholarship
Banquet.
The speaker will be
Thomas N. Todd, Attorney
At Law, Chicago, Illinois.
Mr. Todd attended
Southern University's School
of Law and graduated Magna
Cum Laude in 1963.
He has received hon
orary doctorates from
Grambling State, Syracuse
University, Wilberforce
University, Talladega
College, Southern University,
University of Michigan
Eastern Shore and Bethune-
Cookman College.
As the first full time
black law professor at
Northwestern University's
School of Law, he taught
from 1970 to 1974. As a
Civil Rights Leader, he was
President of the Southern
Christian Leadership
Conference Chicago Chapter,
1971; Executive Vice
President of Operation
PUSH, and President of
Operation PUSH from 1983-
1984. He is so widely regard
ed as an awesome orator, that
he is affectionately known as
"TNT".

organization committed to

The Savannah
Metropolitan Chapter was
founded in 2007 and was
recently recognized for being
the fastest growing chapter in
the country, with over 80
members in
Savannah/Chatham County,
Coastal Georgia and the Low
Country of South Carolina.
