The United Way of the
Coastal Empire has
announced its Campaign
Kick-Off.
The Campaign Kick-
Off officially marks the
beginning of United Way’s
fundraising efforts in Bryan,
Chatham, Effingham and
Liberty counties.
Highlights of the event
include announcement of the
four county fundraising goal,
recognition of Campaign
Cabinet members and
Loaned Associates,
Pacesetters results and guest
speakers.
This year’s United Way
Campaign is chaired by Jeff
Kole, President of Kole
Management Company.
The Kick-Off will be
held on Thursday, September
10,2009 11:45 am-
1:00 pm Savannah Civic
Center’s Martin Luther
King, Jr. Arena.
On September 17, The
Savannah Theatre will pres
ent “Hooray for
Hollywood,” and proceeds
will benefit United Way of
the Coastal Empire, will take
place on Thursday,
September 17, from 7:00
p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Tickets
are $50, and all proceeds
benefit the United Way.
Last year’s cam
paign set a record, bringing
in over $8 million. The hope
is that this year’s campaign
will be even more success
ful.

Tompkins Homecoming was
held on the campus of
Woodville-Tompkins
Technical and Career Center
this past Saturday, September
5, 2009. It was a phenomenal
success!
More than 1500 people
were on the campus to cele
brate, reunite, and recapture
that true Wolverine spirit!!
$1,500.00 by First
Jerusalem in support of
SSU Athletics. Pastor
Tyson has challenged all
other churches to match or
exceed First Jerusalem's
donation to SSU in an
effort to assist SSU in
achieving excellence both
The purpose of the
Woodville-Tompkins
Homecoming is to establish a
scholarship fund for students
who will graduate in 2012
when Woodville-Tompkins
becomes a high school.
Attendees included
classes from 1945 through
1989 - graduates of Woodville
and Tompkins High Schools,
former teachers, the young,
on and off the grid iron.
As Coach Wells told
the congregation, “all
things work together for
good to them that love God,
to them who are the called
according to his purpose”.
First Jerusalem would
like to thank our very own
and the young-at-heart!
There was food galore,
music from every generation,
fun for the children, and a sea
of blue and white t-shirts!!

Edwin Morris for reaching
out to these young men to
worship with us.
We would also like to
congratulate SSU on their
season opener win on
Saturday, September 5,
2009 against Livingstone
College.

Fire and Emergency Services,
The Community
Cardiovascular Council, all
news media, and everyone
who helped to make this
homecoming an overwhelm
ing success!
We will keep you
informed of future events as
we prepare for an even larger
Homecoming event in 2010.
Hall
Takes
Helm at
University
of Virgin
Islands
Dr. David Hall
Dr. David Hall began
his tenure as the fifth presi
dent of University of the
Virgin Islands on August 1.
Hall is a native of
Savannah, and attended
Beach High School. He is a
member of the Beach High
Athletic Hall of Fame, and
the Savannah Athletic Hall of
Fame.
In addition to a distin
guished career as an educa
tional administrator, Dr. Hall
is also recognized as a pre
eminent scholar in the field
of law.
In 1993, when he was
appointed Dean of the
Northeastern University
School of Law, he made his
tory by being the first
African-American to hold
the position. He was appoint
ed Provost and Senior Vice
President for Academic
Affairs at Northeastern in
July of 1998 and served in
that capacity until July of
2002.
The University of the
Virgin Islands is a public, lib
eral arts-based, Masters II
University, a Historically
Black College and
University, a Land-Grant
institution and a member of
the National Student
Exchange.
It is dedicated to the
success of its students and
committed to enhancing the
lives of the people of the
U.S. Virgin Islands and the
wider Caribbean.
