Fall is a crucial season
for childhood hunger as
America's Second Harvest’s
Community. The Kitchen is
busily training at-risk adults
job and life skills necessary to
end the cycle of poverty.
Additionally, Community
Kitchen students prepare hot,
evening meals for Kids Cafe,
an after-school program for
children at-risk for hunger.
The food bank is com
mitted year-round to initia
tives to end childhood hunger
through its Kids Cafe,
Lunchbox, and summer feed
ing programs.

Savannah State saw their
losing streak grow to four
games after receiving a 47-
10 pounding from
Charleston Southern at
Buccaneer Field on October
3. The crowd of 3,023 saw
CSU jump out to a 26-0 lead
midway in the second quar
ter. Savannah State made
the score 26-7 with just over
five minutes left in the first
half after a 16 yard touch
down run by Justin Babb
and a PAT conversion by
Derek Williams. SSU trailed
33-7 at the half and 40-7 in
the third. Williams kicked a
28 yard field goal for the
Tigers early in the fourth to
cut their deficit to 40-10 but
CSU (2-3) added another
score with just under seven
minutes remaining in the
contest. Babb ran for 81
yards for SSU (1-4) while
A.J. DeFilippis passed for
124 yards. Deleon Hollinger
caught five ball for 66 yards

There has been many
changes at black colleges
during the past month rang
ing from firings to retire
ment. Alabama State AD
Monique Holland resigned
and was replaced by former
Kentucky State compliance
director Sterling Steward;
Bethune-Cookman fired
track coach Garfield
Ellenwood and replaced
him with Donald Cooper
who was an assistant at
South Carolina State.
Cooper is from Swainsboro
and has also worked at
Savannah State;
Livingstone fired Lamonte
Massie as head football
coach and replaced him
with assistant Eric Brown;
Grambling fired Rick
Duckett as men's basketball
coach and replaced him
with Bobby Washington;
Tuskegee fired Stacy
Danley as AD and replaced
him with Anthony
Holloman; and FAMU fired
assistant ADs Alvin Hollins
and Bob McBee while Bill
Hayes resigned as athletics
director.
Morgan State
Holds Off Bethune
Carlton Jackson threw a 19-
yard touchdown to Edwin
Baptiste late in the third
quarter and Morgan State
held on to beat Bethune-
Cookman 24-13 in Daytona
Beach, Florida. Jackson
passed for 104 yards for the
Bears (3-1), who won their
third straight. Morgan State,
which opened with a 17-0
lead as Bricen Tate ran back
a fumble, Domanick West
scored on a 1-yard run and
Kemar Scarlett kicked a 48-
yard field goal. Bethune-
Cookman (0-4) closed the
deficit 17-13 on an 11-yard
touchdown run by Courtney
Keith late in the third quar
ter. The Wildcats were led
by Fred McCaskill with 93
yards.
Kentucky State
Stuns CAU
Kentucky State broke open
a close game with two unan
swered scores in the fourth
quarter in a 31-13 win over
Clark Atlanta. KSU led 21-
13 but a touchdown and
filed goal proved to be the
game difference. CAU (3-3)
led 7-0 but the Thorobreds
reeled off three touchdowns
for a 21-7 lead in the third
quarter. KSU (3-3) gained
374 yards of offense. CAU,
which had its homecoming
spoiled, started the season
3-0 but are now in a three
game losing streak.
