Risers Academy Students Learn to
“Save and Pay Yourself First”
“From West Broad
to Moon River”

The Risers Academy at
Hubert Middle School and
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
Inc., Savannah Alumnae
Chapter are partners in the
Members of the
“Pay Yourself First Savings
Program,” an outgrowth of
the Sorority’s national
Financial Fortitude commu
nity programmatic thrust.
The purpose of the pro
gram with the Risers is for
the ladies of the Sorority to
Risers Academy
assist the young men in iden
tifying ways to save and
understanding savings
options.
The latest activity
included a visit to Carver
State Bank. The young men
were given a tour of the bank
and briefed about the many
saving options available to
them.
The “Pay Yourself First
Savings Program” is
designed to involve the

ribbon cutting ceremony for
the Garden of Eden
Restaurant on Wednesday,
November 4, 2009 at 3:00
p.m. at 714 Martin Luther
King, Jr. Blvd.
The Garden of Eden
Restaurant was created to
bring to the Savannah low
country an elegant taste of
fine food and lavish dining.
Our mission is to
provide quality home
cooked fresh food daily at
an economical price. The
owners are native
Savannahians Joseph and
Connie Williams.
The Garden of Eden
hours are Monday-Friday
6:00am- 6:00p.m. and
Saturday 11:00a.m. -
6:00p.m. The owner has a
growing clientele of devot
ed customers via word-of-
mouth, advertising and con
sistent quality.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd
/ Montgomery Street
Business Association, the
Downtown Business
Association and the Tourism

hand to welcome the Garden

November 16, 2009.
"A Morning on West Broad”
(today's Martin Luther King,
Jr. Boulevard) will begin at
10am and include neighbor
hood visits at the St. Philip
A.M.E. Church (the first
African Methodist Episcopal
Church in the state of
Georgia); and 10:45 a.m. at
First Tabernacle Missionary
Baptist Church on Alice
Street.
“An Evening on West
Broad: Jazz in 1930‘s style!”
takes place 5-8 p.m. The
public is invited for an
"Unforgettable" evening of
jazz and Johnny Mercer
music.
Vintage autos will line
the street recreating an era
when West Broad Street was
"King"!
Ladies and Gents, please
dress in “Cotton Club” style.
The event will take place at
Blowin’ Smoke, 514 MLK Jr.
Blvd, Savannah. Free admis
sion. Dutch Treat menu and
cash bar.
Johnny Mercer, perhaps
most famous as the man who
wrote the words of the south
ern lullaby, Moon River - is
getting a posthumous lOOth
birthday celebration in his
hometown of Savannah, cul
minating with the unveiling of
Johnny's life-size bronze stat
ue. The statue unveiling cere
mony takes place in Ellis
Square on Wednesday,
November 18, 2009 (12:00 -
1:00 p.m.). The public is invit
ed.
