Tony and DaVena Jordan
It's no secret that these
are tough economic times,
for individuals as well as
state and local governments.
Faced with a potential cut in
funding of 30-40% for the
upcoming fiscal year, All
Walks of Life is getting
some help from three local
creative firms, Paragon
Design Group, HT Creative
and Banker Optical Media to
try and make up the differ
ence without doing any more
damage to people's check
books.
The campaign is called
2kStrong, and it's goal is to
find 2,000 people or busi
nesses who are willing to
each give $100 each. To help
minimize the cost, the cam
paign is being rolled out via
social media like Facebook
and Twitter with the help of
Paragon and HT Creative,
who thought that they would
better serve the community
with a little hard work - help
ing a local non-profit who
works with at-risk kids raise
money - instead of just giv
ing them a check.
Susan Isaacs, Head
Strategic Focus-izer for the
firm states that, "Paragon
will be covering the cost of
producing and mailing this
piece and Heather
Thompson-Grant of HT
Creative along with Kevin
Banker of Banker Optical
Media will be supporting our
efforts with copy and pho
tography."
At its current level of
funding, a significant portion
of which comes from the
City of Savannah as well as
state agencies, AWOL is able
to serve right at about 100
youth every year with a vari
ety of arts and technology
programs.
AWOL programs are
unique in that there are no
other programs similar inna
ture in the region, or for that
matter the entire state. A cut
in funding like the one
AWOL's expecting could
mean that as many as 50 kids
would no longer be able to
participate in programming
that encourages creativity
and helps keep them out of
trouble.
"This campaign is very
unique and will be the first
of its kind in Savannah
among NPO's. Smaller non
profits have a much tougher
time trying to raise funds
through traditional methods
such as galas and balls, etc.
which typically require a
great deal of funds just to
implement," states Tony &
DaVena Jordan, leaders of
AWOL, Inc.
By logging on to the
2kStrong.org website,
donors have the option to set
up recurring donation how
ever they choose and can
even choose to give more
than the $100.
The 2kStrong launch
party will be held on
December 6, 2009 from 6-
Where a Little Goes a Long Way
9:00pm at LuLu's Chocolate
Bar located at 42 Martin
Luther King Jr. Blvd. The
local restaurant will be
donating 15% of the gross
profits from the nights sales
to AWOL along with 100%
of sales from a special adult
drink the 2KTini and 2K cup
cakes. All attendees who sign
up for 2KStrong that night
will receive a free gift in
honor of their support.
