Day Association is happy to
announce the Theme Contest
Winners. They are: First
Place, "A Dream of Change,

Accomplishment", by
Brittany Strobert of Robert
W. Groves High School,
12th grade; Second Place,
"One Man, One Dream, Our
Future" by Dajure Robinson
of Robert W. Groves High
School, 9th grade; Third
Place, "Excellence
Outweighs Longevity when
Making Dreams Come True

Butler Elementary School,
5th grade. Theme winners
will be recognized at all
events and activities.

Jones, a nurse by pro-

fession, is very active in the
community serving on sever
al boards. She is credited
with establishing the local
Adult Sickle Cell Clinic.
Jones is an ardent member of
Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Addison moved to Savannah
at the age of 17. Joe became
involved in selling automo
biles as a side business. In
July 1969, opened his first
automotive dealership on the

corner of Wayne and West
Broad Streets, Joe Addison
Motors was born. He is a a
member of the Tremont
Temple Missionary Baptist
Church where he has served
in a number of capacities.
Following high school,
Johnny Drayton join the
NAACP to take up the cause
of freedom and to serve on
the front line. He is credited
with being very involved in
the campaign to achieve the
integration of Savannah
High School, the local the
atres, super markets restau
rants and many others busi
nesses.

175th Commencement
Congressman John Barrow
100 Celebrity Men Who
Cook to Support Youth

Savannah State
University (SSU) will hold
its 175th commencement
ceremony on Saturday,
December 12, at 10 a.m. in
Tiger Arena. Approximately
200 students will receive
undergraduate and graduate
degrees following the com
mencement address by U.S.
Congressman John Barrow
of Georgia.
Currently serving his
third term in the U.S. House
of Representatives, Barrow
represents Georgia’s 12th
Congressional District,
which covers 22 counties
and 10,000 square miles. In
the House, he serves on the
Energy and Commerce
Committee and subcommit
tees for Energy and
Environment; Health; and
Commerce, Trade and
Consumer Protection.
Barrow earned degrees in
political science and history
from the University of
Georgia. At the age of 20, he
became one of the youngest
members of his class at
Harvard Law School. Before
being elected to Congress in
2004, Barrow was elected as
a charter member of the
Athens-Clarke County
Commission where he
served for 14 years.
Established in 1890,
Savannah State is on the
move to become the best
value-added university in
the nation. The university’s
approximately 3,800 stu
dents are enrolled in 23
undergraduate degree
majors and five graduate
programs in three colleges:
Liberal Arts and Social
Sciences, Business
Administration and Sciences
and Technology.

“Savannah's 100 Celebrity
Men Who Cook” competi
tion on Sunday, December
13, 2009 at Savannah
Marriott Riverfront from
3:00 P.M.-5:00 P.M. This
special holiday event will
benefit the United Negro
College Fund, one of our
country's oldest higher edu
cation assistance programs.
This is the Tenth
Anniversary of the event,
and it promises to be bigger
and better than ever.
Savannah's 100 Celebrity
Men Who Cook has collect
ed recipes from participants
over the past nine years and
has published an attractive
keepsake cookbook. The
collector's item Savannah's
Celebrity Chefs cookbook
contains many of the well
loved recipes from past
events, including appetizers,
main dishes, casseroles,
desserts and many others.
The cookbook should be
available for sale by
December 15, 2009.
Cookbooks are only $12.00
plus $2.50 shipping and han
dling, for a total of only
$14.50. Order forms will be
available so that patrons may
place their orders for the col
lector's cookbooks at this
year's event, or they may
send a cashier's check or
money order in the amount
