100 Black Men of America and
The Michael Baisden Show Partner to
Encourage Mentorship
Michael
The 100 Black Men of
America, Inc., The Michael
Baisden Show and The
National CARES Mentoring
Movement have issued a
national challenge to encour
age adults to become more
engaged in the community as
mentors.
The National
Mentoring Training Day will
officially launch during the
100's annual Chapter
Summit in South Florida on
December 12th beginning at
1 p.m. at Antioch Missionary
Baptist Church of Carol City.
Participating local
faith-based partners include:
New Birth Baptist Cathedral
of Faith Inti., Sweet Home
Missionary Baptist Church,
and Antioch Missionary
Baptist Church; other nation
al community partners will
also be in attendance. This
event is free and open to the
public. Doors will open at
12:00 p.m.
100 Black Men of
America Chairman Albert E.
Dotson, Jr.; nationally syndi
cated radio personality and
best-selling author Michael
Baisden; editor-in-chief
Baisden
Emeritus of Essence
Magazine and National
CARES Movement
Founder/CEO Susan L.
Taylor, 100 Black Men of
America Chairman Emeritus
Thomas W. Dortch, Jr. and
more will serve as presenters
during the two-hour commu
nity event.
Representatives from
100 Black Men of America,
National CARES Movement,
Big Brothers Big Sisters, The
United Way, local faith-
based organizations, various
community groups and more
will be in attendance to edu
cate participants about vari
ous mentoring programs and
opportunities in their respec
tive organizations.
Additionally, Michael
Baisden will announce his
partnership with these organ
izations and his personal
commitment to mentorship
through his 2010 cross-coun
try tour - "Save Our Kids."
"Both Michael Baisden
and I reside here in the South
Florida area and are equally
committed to making an
impact in neighborhoods and
communities not only in
Florida but also across this
nation," said Dotson, who in
addition to serving as
Chairman of the 100 Black
Men of America, is also a
South Florida resident.
"While the members of
the 100 gather from across
the country and convene at
our annual Chapter Summit
in Miami on December 10 -
13, our foremost goal is to
always deposit back into the
community we visit by ignit
ing a fire for mentoring and
volunteering that will bum in
the hearts and minds of lead
ers in that area."

Rev. Thurmond Tillman
First African Baptist
Church, the oldest black
church in North America will
celebrate 232 years of serv
ing God and the community.
It was constituted in
December, 1777 under the
leadership of Rev. George
Leile.
Rev. Dr. Steve Bland, Jr.
This year the Rev., Dr.
Steve Bland, Jr. of Liberty
Temple Baptist Church,
Detroit, Michigan will share
in the weekend festivities.
He will facilitate a church
development workshop on
Saturday, December 12th
from 9-11 am.
The church will come
together for their annual
Christmas Luncheon at the
Hyatt Regency Hotel on
Saturday at noon.
On Sunday, December
13th, Rev. Bland will deliver
God's Word at both the 7:45
and 10:30 a.m. worship
experiences.
A Christmas banquet
and celebration for Rev.
Tillman's birthday will fol
low the 10:30 worship.
At 6 p.m. National
recording artist Earnest Pugh
“Rain on us”, will be in con
cert. Tickets are available at
the church office.
Rev. Thurmond N.
Tillman is the 17th pastor of
this historic congregation.
