City of Yichun; Yang Guo Rong, Finance Bureau Chief of Yichun; Ye Jianhua,

Coastal Georgia is a
unique region of economic
development with opportu
nities to partner with inter
national and domestic com
panies for growth.
Savannah, Hinesville
and Brunswick are local
cities that have taken advan
tage of their potential to
grow internationally with
China.
Recently, the City of
Hinesville formalized its sis
ter city relationship with the
City of Yichun, China. Six
delegates visited Hinesville
on Dec. 7 to formalize the
sister city relationship
between Hinesville and
Yichun. They also toured the
area to learn about trade and
economic development
opportunities.
The purpose of this
agreement is to strengthen
cooperation and exchange
between the cities and to
enhance the relationship,
City of Hinesville Mayor
James Thomas said.
“Although the primary
objective is economic, we
are looking forward to cul
tural, educational and social
exchanges as well,” he said.
“It is important that we
establish these relationships
now so that our children can
begin educational exchanges
early,” Vice Mayor Yan
Ganhui of Yichun, China
added.
Hinesville is one of the
first Georgia cities to have
sister city relationships with
China.
This visit was the first
step along the journey of
long lasting relationships
and exchanges between the
City of Hinesville and the
City of Yichun, China.

Broad Street YMCA a Huge Success
West Broad Street YMCA Basketball Camp 2009
The inaugural basket
ball camp at the West Broad
Street YMCA with former
Harlem Globetrotters Larry
"Gator" Rivers, Tyrone
"Hollywood" Brown, and
Wayne "AB" Clark was a
huge success!
Over the three days
nearly 55 kids got to learn
the basic skills of the game
while learning about how to
work with others, play well,
and love themselves.
"I have been doing this
for years and it only gets bet
ter every time," offers Gator.
"Every generation of kids
can learn through basket
ball."
The camp ran from
Monday, December 28
through Wednesday
December 30. Kids came
from all over Savannah and
ranged in age from 5 to 15.
"This is the
kind of thing we want hap
pening here," says Tony
Welch, volunteer at the Y.
"We are recruiting adults
from our community to help
with these kids.”
The West Broad
Street YMCA is starting a
series of basketball leagues
in January for kids 3 and up,
as well as for adults.
