City Urges Residents to Take Cold-
Weather Precautions
With colder, freezing
temperatures expected
across the region over the
next few days, the City of
Savannah urges residents to
take precautions to protect
their homes and life safety.
When temperatures
drop below freezing, resi
dents and business owners
should refrain from outdoor
watering. Water runoff can
cause icy conditions, creat
ing hazards for cars and
pedestrians.
The City of Savannah
will not water public prop
erty, pressure wash rights of
way, or conduct fire
hydrant testing when tem
peratures are freezing.
Residents can protect
their plumbing by leaving a
very slow drip from their
faucets during freezing
conditions. Doing so keeps
water moving, preventing
ice from forming in pipes,
which causes them to crack.
Residents
should also be careful when
turning on space heaters,
and ensure they are not set
near flammable materials.

Information Office at 651 -

Hospice Savannah to host Art Show
During Months of January and
February
The Hospice Savannah
Art Gallery is proud to pres
ent Judy Mooney's Gullah-
inspired sculptures and the
African American paintings
of Richard Law and
William Kwamena-Poh dur
ing January and February,
Black Heritage Month.
Their opening
reception will be Thursday,
January 21, 2010 from 5:30
to 7:30 p.m. As always, a
portion of sales will benefit
Hospice Savannah.
William
Kwamena-Poh, a native of
Ghana, West Africa, came
to America in 1980 when
his father accepted a
Fulbright Scholarship to
teach in Alabama. He is a
celebrated master artist
whose work has graced the
walls of numerous TV sit
coms and is in corporate
collections such as the
Disney Corporation and

Television, and private col
lections such as those of
actors Angela Bassett and

William works out of
his City Market Studio in

Richard Law's
work is inspired by his
upbringing in the Low
Country. His work is a
blend of folk art, jazz and
contemporary scenes of the
south; He is not only an
artist, but also a barber and
saxophonist and flutist in
jazz and gospel bands.
Born in Louisiana,
Judy Mooney spent her
career as a community
development specialist and
took up pottery for relax
ation. After retirement, she
returned to school to study
art and began sculpting,
eventually adding paper,
fabric, glass, paint and
glaze to her clay. Her
“Vanishing Culture” pieces
are Judy's interpretations of
the stories told by the
Gullah people who have
lived, or are living, on the
Sea Islands of the South
Carolina Coast.
The Hospice Savannah
Art Gallery is located at
1352 Eisenhower Drive.
