How Fasting Improves Health
The goal of this column and
the goal of the Health
Restoration 101 programs
are to help to maximize your
chances of living a longer,
healthier life.
Recently I received this
question from a reader, How
can fasting improve or restore
health?
Actually we did not
have adequate time for a real
ly comprehensive answer. So
today I want to talk about
how this ancient healing tech
nique can help so many per
sons regain health.
Fasting has been used for
thousands of years to heal not
only the body but also the
spirit. Many find fasting a
powerful way to accelerate
health, and to lose the
dependence on caffeine, nico
tine, alcohol, salt, and sugar,
and finding that simple foods
taste great again.
Fasting starts a potent healing
process that can help us
recover from many illnesses,
from mild to severe, very
quickly.
Research tells us that
some of the most common
and fast to respond to thera
peutic fasting are: high blood
pressure, asthma, allergies,
chronic headaches, inflam
matory bowel disease (ulcer
ative colitis and Crohn’s dis
ease), irritable bowel syn
drome, adult onset diabetes,
heart disease, degenerative
arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis,
psoriasis, eczema, acne, uter-
Carolyn Guilford, CNC
ine fibroids, benign tumors,
and lupus.
Fasting provides a rest
for the body allowing it’s
self-healing mechanisms to
work at repairing and
strengthening damaged
organs. This process of fast
ing allows the body to cleanse
the cells of toxins and waste.
Also, the digestive system
gets a rest in order to
strengthen the mucosal lin
ing.
This is absolutely the
quickest way to create a
healthy digestive tract, which
helps to protect the blood and
inner organs from many inter
nal and external toxins.
The renowned Dr. Kim says
that the right fasting protocol
for the individual, will allow
us to have: • More energy •
Healthier skin • Healthier
teeth and gums • Better quali
ty of sleep • A healthier heart
■ A decrease in anxiety and
tension • Dramatic reduction
or the complete elimination
of aches and pains in mus
cles and joints • Decrease or
elimination of headaches •
Stabilization of blood pres
sure • Stronger and more
efficient digestion
Elimination of stored toxins
Improvement in a variety of
chronic degenerative health
conditions, including
autoimmune disorders It is
important to understand that
the detoxifying and healing
processes that the fast pro
vides is also at work at a
lesser degree while we are
eating. Fasting accelerates
the healing process allowing
the body’s energies to con
centrate on repair, rather
than digestion. After the
fast, it is important to focus
on creating and maintaining
healthy food and lifestyle
choices. Fasting
will provide a clean base
upon which to re-build a
body to great health.
