Obama Sets Deadline On Health Care
Reform
President Barack Obama
WASHINGTON
(NNPA) - President Obama
hopes to see his controversial
health care reform bill
approved by March 18, White
House Press Secretary Robert
Gibbs has said.
According to
thehill.com, Gibbs said
sweeping health care reform
should move through
Congress before the president
leaves for a trip to Australia
and Indonesia.
"We're leaving on
March 18 and we believe that
we're on schedule, based on
our conversations that have
been had with the Speaker of
the House and the majority
leader, that we're on schedule
to get something done before
we leave," Gibbs said.
The press secretary said
Obama hopes the House will
pass the Senate's primary
health care bill by that date,
with a final bill to be signed
by Easter.
Because Obama's recent
bipartisan health care reform
summit failed to provoke any
Republican converts,
Democrats are turning to a
political process called recon
ciliation, which would side
step the need for Republican
support.
The process would
allow the Democratic-majori
ty Congress to approve
Obama's proposed health care
reform with a simple majori
ty vote.

Invisible Children Legacy Tour
On March 21 The Lake
Church in Savannah will be
hosting The Legacy Tour
from Invisible Children, a
non-profit film studio dedi
cated to ending the longest
running war in Africa.
They will be sending
representatives from their
organization along with
native Ugandans to
Savannah to talk about the
war and to plan out a way to
end it.
Since the late 80's over
30,000 children in Uganda
have been abducted and
forced to join a rebel army
led by a man named Joseph
Kony. For over 2 decades the
world sat by and did nothing
as he abducted the kids and
trained them to be soldiers.
In 2003 a group of three
young filmmakers traveled to
Africa and stumbled upon
the story. They filmed what
they saw, followed some for
mer abductees, and filmed
the lives of the children who
fear being abducted. They
brought the footage back to
the United States and made a
rough-cut-film they called
"Invisible Children".
Since then millions of
people have seen this film,
celebrities such as Oprah
Winfrey, Miley Cyrus,
Kristen Bell, Tom Shadyac,
Pete Wentz, Ryan Gosling,
Benjamin McKenzie, Hayden
Panettiere, Jon Turteltaub,
and Brady Poppinga have
shared their support, and now
Invisible Children is a media-
based, 501 (c)3 non-profit
based out of San Diego,
California (with offices in
Gulu, Uganda and London,
England).
We will be hosting this
historic event which will
include an updated film pro
duced by Invisible Children,
a time for the Ugandan guests
to share, and a question and
answer session. This event is
free and open to the public.
