CHURCH NEWS AND OTHER FEATURES
Listen! - Can You Hear
Him?
Evangelist Rachel Thomas
Continued from last week...
God was not interested
in Moses having a burning
experience to talk about the
rest of his life. He had some
thing to tell Moses, so He did
what it took to get his atten
tion as He still does to some
of us. He is the same God
today, yesterday, and forever.
He changes not!
Many years later, God
called a man named Gideon
to deliver the people of Israel
from the bondage of the
Midianites - what we may
remember most about Gideon
was the fleece, but what
would the miracle of the
fleece have meant without the
Voice of God in the first
place? Gideon did not get
instruction from the fleece.
He got instruction from the
Voice of God! The fleece was
just a reassurance that God
was with him.
Think about Lazarus,
how Jesus spoke the words,
“Lazarus, Come Forth!” and
he was raised from the dead.
Think about the demons tor
menting the demoniac from
Gadara, how they were sent
into a herd of pigs with one
word, “GO.” How about the
storm raging on the Sea of
Galilee was stilled by a sim
ple, “Peace be still.” Oh, the
power in the Voice of God!
Can we describe God's
voice? Probably not, but we
do know god speaks to us.
I remember clearly,
when the Lord called my
name three (3) different times
in my life. The last time He
called, I answered. He took
me to the cross, and I was
crucified in Him. Then, early
one morning at 3:00 a.m., on
December 31, 1974 - God's
presence came into my bed
room, and I was alone crying
and reading the Bible when
the room lit up like 12
O'clock high noon, circled
around me, and a sheet came
from the ceiling with all sorts
of hideous things all over it.
God's voice spoke to me and
said, “These are your sins.” I
remember crying aloud say
ing, “No!” and turning away
weeping and wailing from
even the sight of it. Then,
something wonderful hap
pened on the inside of me. I
felt so much peace, complete
love, and complete joy, all of
which I could not explain, but
since that moment, I have
never been the same again.
He began to wash me with
His word. I read the Bible
day and night, I could not put
it down - sometimes all night
and all day - crying, laughing,
listening - God was cleansing
me, purging me for months. I
began to see visions, to hear
God tell of things that would
happen two to three days
before, and they did happen. I
could hear the thoughts of
other people's minds, and it
was real because they later
spoke them.
Well, I could go on and
on about my experiences with
God, and I still cannot
describe to you the Voice of
God, but I know He spoke to
my very soul. Thank God,
that morning at 3:00 a.m., the
last day of December in
1974, I yielded my life to
Him and entered a new year
with a new life! Glory
Hallelujah!
It is a wonderful thing to
have the Lord pass by. That is
why now, when He calls me
into our sometimes 3 days, 10
days, 17 days, 19 days what
ever He desires, we Shut - In
close together, I am always
ready to meet, commune and
sup with Him, to grow in a
relationship of Holiness in
His presence.

Black Marriage Day 2010:
’’Celebrate The Joy”
Bethel Missionary
Baptist Church of Savannah,
Inc. and Wedded Bliss
Foundation, Inc., will present
the Eighth Annual Black
Marriage Day celebration,
Sunday, March 28, 2010, at
5:00 p.m. with the theme
“Celebrate The Joy.” Pastor
Beverly Flowers of Asbury
United Methodist Church is
the guest speaker.
Bethel M.B. Church
will join activists in hundreds
of cities aroimd the country to
highlight the benefits of mar
ried life and offer celebra
tions to strengthen and pro
mote marriage in
[Savannah 1 s] Black commu
nity.
As in the past years,
Pastor Jerome William Baker
and the Bethel family will
show their appreciation to all
couples who have stayed the
course and kept their sacred
vows. We will acknowledge
the couple married the most
years, second most years and
the newest wedded couple.
There will be renewing of
vows, jumping the broom and
a three tier wedding cake.
This event will be highlighted
by a rousing sermon by an
Anointed Vessel chosen by
God for this occasion. We are
so elated and blessed that
Pastor Beverly Flowers has
accepted our invitation to
bring the message for this
service.
“Bethel will always be will
ing to promote activities and
programs that glorify God
and fellowship with the com
munity”, explained Deacon
Florida Hunt, Chairman of
the 2010 BMD Celebration.
"We're creating a cultur
al shift in the Black commu
nity to reconsider the benefits
of marriage and “Celebrate
the Joy” that exists in spite of
the pain we often experi
ence," Wedded Bliss
Foundation Executive
Director Nisa Muhammad
said. “Much of what we hear
about marriage in the Black
community is a blues song
about low rates, out of wed
lock births, escalating
divorces and how somebody
done somebody wrong. We
want to replace that blues
song with a love song of joy.
We want to “Celebrate the
Joy!"
Black Marriage Day has
been celebrated annually at
locally sponsored events
hosted by faith-based and
community groups on the
fourth Sunday of March since
2003. Marriage activists in
more than 300 cities partici
pated in 2009, Mrs.
Muhammad said.
