Authors Present Book to Mayor in
Observance of Women’s History
Month
Brenda Roberts and Pamela Oglesby
In honor of Women's
History Month, Pam Oglesby
and Brenda Roberts appeared
before the City Council dur
ing their weekly meeting to
present them with a copy of
their newly published book
"Savannah's Black First
Ladies, Vol. 1".
Eight years in the mak
ing, Savannah's Black “First
Ladies” is a remarkable col
lection of short biographies
which recognizes African-
American women in
Savannah who were pio
neers- “first” in their chosen
professions.
In the book, you’ll meet edu
cators, police officers, politi
cians, doctors, and others
who went where no black
woman had gone before. In
many cases, their professions
were closed to women.
The trials and tribula
tions these women endured to
fulfill their calling is a true
testimony of their persever
ance and strength.
They chose not to give
up or give in, but to press for
ward to see their dreams
come to fruition .
