Deltas Observe Sisterhood Month
Members of the Savannah Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
The core of Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is
a sisterhood. It is a sister
hood founded on Christian
principles. This deep and
abiding bond based on love
and respect has sustained the
organization, allowing it to
withstand the test of time.
Bound by a common experi
ence steeped in tradition, the
women of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc. continue to set
the standards of scholarship,
service, and Sisterhood.
Sisterhood motivates
Delta women to set examples
within their communities,
and pushes women in today's
society to stray away from
stigmas that prevent them
from excelling. It also
allows Delta women to
reflect on themselves, chal
lenging them to love uncon
ditionally, laugh all the time,
and live life fully. In recent
years, Deltas everywhere
have observed March as
Sisterhood Month for the
sorority, a time when mem
bers put forth an extra effort
to reach out to one another
and show their love.
During the month of
March Savannah Alumnae
Chapter observed Sisterhood
Month, with the theme,
“Make it Personal from the
Heart.”
In keeping with this
theme, members were
involved in an array of activ
ities. Some of these activi
ties included: inviting inac
tive sorors to Sisterhood
Month activities, enjoying
'Heart Healthy” menus, a
White Elephant Sale, partici
pating in “heartfelt Prayers
for the people in Haiti, and
cleaning up Rockwell Park at
McDonald's at MLK
Boulevard and Victory
Drive.
The culminating activ
ities were morning worship
service at Bethlehem Baptist
Church and branch at the
Hilton Savannah Desoto
Hotel.
Although the soror
ity emphasizes its
“Sisterhood” theme in
March, sisterhood is prac
ticed throughout the year.

Savannah Philharmonic to Present
Beethoven’s 1st and 9th Symphonies
Conductor
The composer of
Symphony Fantastique,
Hector Berlioz, had the fol
lowing to say about the 9th
Symphony of Beethoven: " A
small number of musicians
who are temperamentally
inclined to examine carefully
anything that might enlarge
the realm of art, and who
have thought deeply about
the general layout of the
Choral symphony after
studying the score and listen
ing to it attentively on several
occasions, assert that this
work seems to them the most
magnificent expression of
Beethoven's genius: we
believe we have said at some
earlier point that this is the
opinion we share."
This "most magnificent
expression of Beethoven's
genius", I am delighted to
say, will be performed by the
Savannah Philharmonic
Orchestra and Chorus this
month on Saturday the 17th
The Ode to Joy from
the 9th is said to be the most
well known melody in classi
cal music. It's safe to say that
it has reached a place in his
tory which Beethoven him
self envisaged.
day of study a little bit of
light shines into this dark
mystery which has plagued
many before me.
The first and ninth sym
phonies represents a corner
stone not only in Beethoven's
life, but in the orchestral
repertoire, and both were a
leading light to so many
composers and musicians.
We too hope that the
Savannah Philharmonic will
continue to bring a shine to
the cultural life in Savannah.
