Slay Named Executive
of CASA
ZaDonna M. Slay was
named Executive Director of
Savannah/Chatham County
Court Appointed Special
Advocates (CASA), Inc. by
the local Board of Directors.
Slay, 25, of Savannah,
Georgia, is responsible for
daily operations of the
CASA program including,
the administration of the
Corporation and its programs
and the recruitment, training
and supervision of program

ZaDonna is a graduate
of Savannah State University
(Bachelor’s of Social Work)
and the University of South
Carolina (Master’s of Social
Work). Her community affili
ations include Chatham
County Youth Commission
Graduate Advisor, Savannah
Metropolitan Chapter of the
National Forum for Black
Public Administrators and
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
Inc. Savannah Alumnae
Chapter.
The Savannah/Chatham
County CASA was started in
1991. In 2009, approximately
200 trained volunteers of the
local program served almost
500 children that came
through the foster care sys
tem.
The goal of the program
is to ensure that every child
has a safe and permanent
home as quickly as possible.
The CASA volunteer
advocates for the safety, per
manency and well-being of
the child.

Centenarian Alberta Stokes Celebrates
100th Birthday

Alberta B. Stokes in the
sanctuary at St. Philip AME
Church on Saturday, April
17th to celebrate her 100th
Birthday. She was born April
15, 1910.
It was a Praise
Celebration through song
and dance with selections
rendered by choirs, musi
cians and dance groups such
as the St. Philip AME
Church Foundation Choir,
God's Project, Lori Lewis,
Melody Perkins, and the
Creative Expressions liturgi
cal dance troupe.
Other celebratory
expressions and tributes
were made by St. Philip
AME Church where “Ma
Bert,” as she is affectionately
called, is the oldest active
member in Church and
Sunday School; the Women's
Missionary Society, Church

song was presented by her
Great-great granddaughter,
Aryanna Collins. Other fami
ly tributes were presented by
her daughter, Dorothy B.
Campbell and her grand
daughter, Paula Council.
Devotional prayers and scrip
ture readings of thanksgiving
were made by Greg Linton,
Queen Thomas, and the
Reverend Delores Johnson.
The Reverend Dr. John
Foster, Senior Pastor at St.
Philip AME Church,
presided. This great program
of praise and celebration cul
minated with a banquet in the
Holder Fellowship Hall at the
church.
The life of “Ma Bert” is
in fulfillment of the scripture
from Deuteronomy 5:33 as
selected by her family as the
theme scripture for the hour-
that “You shall walk in all the
ways which the Lord your
God has commanded you,
that you may live and that it
may be well with you, and
that you may prolong your
days in the land which you
shall possess.” (NKJV).
