Savannah Fair Housing Council Holds
Annual Awards Banquet and Benefit
Local Author Releases New
Children’s Book

The Savannah-
Chatham County Fair
Housing Council held its
14th Annual Fair Housing
Banquet & Awards Benefit
on April 21, 2010 at the
EOA Administration
Building at 1120 May
Street.
The speaker for this
year’s event was
Department of Georgia
Labor Commissioner
Michael Thurmond.
The theme for this
year’s was “Fair Housing.
It’s Not an Option. It’s the
Law!”
James Jones, Co-Chair
of the Planning Committee
states, “We are especially
pleased to have had dynam
ic Commissioner Michael
Thurmond providing our
keynote
address at our inaugural
evening event. In previous
years, we have recognized
April as Fair Housing
Month at our luncheon
events.”
Special invitation for
the Benefit is given to per
sons involved in housing,
including real estate profes
sionals, landlords, property
managers, bankers, insur
ance providers and commu
nity activists.
The Fair Housing
Council was formed to pro
vide equal housing opportu
nity without discrimination
based on race, color, reli
gion, national origin, sex or
gender, familial status or
disability.
The Council annually
recognizes the passage of
the
Fair Housing Act in April.
The Savannah-
Chatham County Fair
Housing Council is a non
profit organization that
began in 1994.
The mission of the
organization is to provide all
citizens in Savannah,
Chatham and surrounding
counties, within constitu
tional limitations, fair hous
ing services that will result
in the protection of equal
housing opportunity from
discrimination based on
race, color, national origin,
sex, religion, familial sta
tus or disability.
