AWOL's Sound Design Class Releases
Fourth Album, "Shattered Reflections"
Price Selected for Promotion to Senior
Master Sergeant
The students in
AWOL's sound design class,
known as The
P.R.O .J.E.C.T.S. The
Positive Re-education Of
Juveniles Everywhere
Concerning The Streets,
have completed the 22-week
program and are about to
celebrate their hard work
and dedication during two
album release events.
The first event will be
June 5, 7-9 pm, at the
S.P.A.C.E. building, 9 W.
Henry St. and the second
will take place during
AWOL's Annual Lake Bash
event, June 16, 5-8 pm at the
Lake Mayer Pavillion. The
students, who range in age
from 13-19, spent nearly six
months learning about
music history, creative writ
ing, music production and
engineering while working
collaboratively on the music
appearing on the album. The
songs were conceptualized,
written and performed by
local youth, and are a candid
look, from their perspec
tives, at their aspirations,
the difficulties of growing
up, and more.
The group features
poets, rappers, singers and a
producer, is the fourth class
of students to complete
AWOL's sound design pro
gram and release an album.
Similar to last year, students
won't be releasing a physical
CD, but will instead pack
age the album on download
cards, each of which has a
redemption code on the
back allowing people to
download the music from
the Internet.
Being environmentally
friendly was part of the rea
son for the switch; the
download cards use less
packaging, and produce less
waste.
This is the third year
AWOL has hosted a Lake
Bash for youth out at Lake
Mayer that accompanied the
album release party. Every
year, it is an opportunity for
young people to gather with
their peers at the beginning
of the summer in a safe, pos
itive environment.
The event features
food, live music and more.
Copies of the
RR.O.J.E.C.T.S. album will
be available for sale at the
event.
AWOL's sound design
program and the Lake Bash
are possible thanks to sup
port from the Chatham
County Youth Commission,
The City of Savannah, the
Governor's Office and
Children and Families and
Cricket Wireless.
