The Savannah-Chatham Metro Police
to hold Citizens Police Academy
The Savannah-
Chatham Metropolitan
Police Department is holding
their Citizens Police
Academy.
It is a thirteen week
program designed to allow
the residents of our commu
nity to informally interact
with the members of the
police department and the
local criminal justice system.
Participants will meet
officers from each unit of
Savannah-Chatham Police
who will explain the how
and why of what they do and
will feature speakers from
various agencies with whom
they interact.
Highlights of the
program have been the tour
of the 911 Center, Chatham
County Jail,
Firearms/Tactical Training,
Traffic Stop role playing and
an opportunity to do a ride-a-
long with a patrol officer.
The class meets on Thursday
nights from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
at the Savannah- Chatham
Police Department Squad
Room, 201 Habersham
Street.
The next class starts
Thursday, September 16,
2010. Registration is $10 for
the 13-week course. Only
checks or money orders will
be accepted - no cash please.

Precinct near you or call
Gianna Nelson at 651-2246.
For those with access
to the Internet, an application
can be found on the SCMPD
website, www.scmpd.org.
Please make sure your
application is signed and
notarized. Applicants can
turn in the application at any
precinct or the Police
Barracks at Habersham and
Oglethorpe Streets.
Graduates will
receive a certificate of com
pletion for Savannah
Chatham Metropolitan
Police Department and will
be eligible to apply to the
Volunteers in Policing
Program if they want to sup
port SCMPD through volun
teering efforts.
Application deadline is
Friday, September 10, 2010.

Advocates (CASA), Inc. is
proud to present its third
annual Dancing with
Savannah Stars on Thursday,
November 11, 2010.
Patterned after the national
television show, this unique
fundraiser features local
celebrities dancing to pro
vide hope and make a differ
ence in the lives of abused
and neglected children in
Chatham County. This event
fundraiser for the children's
advocacy organization. The
Board of Directors will offi
cially present this year's local
celebrities at a Dancing with
Savannah Stars Kick-Off on
Thursday, September 23,
2010 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm
in Ellis Square (City
Market). The Kick-Off is
free and open to the public as
an opportunity to learn more
about the organization and
the fundraiser.

NAACP to Hold General Membership
Meeting
The Savannah Branch
will hold a General
Membership Meeting on
Wednesday, September 22,
2010, 6:30 p.m., at the St.
Philip Monumental A.M.E.
Church, 1112 Jefferson &
Park Avenue.
The major item on
the agenda will be the elec
tion of the Nominating
Committee for the officers
of the Branch for the next
two year term.
