February 1-13, 2011

T he 22nd Annual
Savannah Black
Heritage Festival kicks
off its celebration on February
1, 2011, and will continue
through Sunday, February 13th
with some pre- and post-festi
val events.
The festival is presented
by The City of Savannah and
Savannah State University,
and all events and activities are
free of admission and open to
the public.
Each year, the festival
presents activities for every
age and every interest. Cultural
education and exposure to the
performing and visual arts, as
well as ethnic cuisine, crafts,
fun and family are emphasized
throughout the celebration.
Great music of every
genre and dance performances
by national recording artists
and dancers, local youth talent
showcases, historic tours, visu
al art exhibitions by interna
tionally acclaimed and local
artists and sculptors, lectures,
spoken word and dramatic pro
ductions are all included on the
schedule. In addition, educa
tional opportunities are provid
ed during the festival through a

Savannah's 100
Celebrity Men Who
Cook event was a great suc
cess. A huge crowed packed
the Savannah Marriott
Riverfront Ballroom on
Sunday, December 12, 2010,
where cooks from throughout
the area showed off their
prize dishes.
Approximately 100 celebrity
chefs had to “step-up-to-the-
plate” for some top- notched
tasters this year. Judging this
culinary feast were: Chef

Suggs Named
Director of
Intercollegiate
Athletics at SSU
Marilynn Stacey-Suggs

University (SSU)
President Earl G.
Yarbrough Sr., Ph.D. has
named Marilynn Stacey-
Suggs as director of
Intercollegiate Athletics
effective Jan. 1, 2011.
Suggs, who has served
as interim director of
Intercollegiate Athletics
since Jan. 2010, will be
responsible for all matters
related to managing
Savannah State’s 16 NCAA
Division I sport teams for
men and women including
budgeting; compliance with
university, University
System of Georgia and
NCAA policies and rules;
and fundraising for pro
grammatic needs.
“Mrs. Suggs has
demonstrated her passion
for the success of Savannah
State’s students and stu
dent-athletes,” Yarbrough
said. “During her tenure in
the athletic department she
has provided continuous,
stable leadership and
worked diligently to ensure
rule compliance. I look for
ward to working with her to
continue building a quality
program that will make us
all proud.”
Prior to serving as
interim director of athletics,
Suggs was SSU’s assistant
