They were beautifully dressed
in their traditional attire called
“Humbo”.
Rev. Joseph Wong’s
Children’s Choir presented
two songs, “Jesus Loves Me”
and “Happy New Year” which
means spring. That is the rea
son Chinese New Year is also
called spring festival. The
Youth Choir members
impressed some 100 curious
onlookers with their rendition
of “Jehovah Is Love”. It was
written in San Francisco by a
couple of his friends with
lyrics by Rev. Lawrence Fung,
former Sr. Pastor of
Presbyterian Church in China
Town.
The second song the
choir sang was a song called
“China Morning 5am”. Just
like the Korean brothers and
sisters, 5am is the time the
worshippers gathered to
pray. Growth has been more
significant since the loosen
ing of restrictions on reli
gion after the 1970s within
the People's Republic.
Religious practices are still
often tightly controlled by
government authorities.
