On July 22,2010, officials of Carver State Bank and St. Philip AME Church hosted
a groundbreaking ceremony for Carver Commons, a development that includes
a new main office for the bank and a Food Lion supermarket.
The Food Lion store opened on March 30,2011.

spent Memorial Day week
end competing in Miramar
Florida at Ansin Sports
Complex, home to a state-
of-the-art Track that is the
only one of its kind in the
United States. It is an
exact replica of the Beijing
track & field venue uti
lized in the 2008 Olympic
Games.
The Silver Cheetahs
won thirty-nine (39) gold
medals, twenty (20) silver
medals and seven (7)
bronze medals. With over
a thousand overall points,
it's no surprise that they
earned a First Place rank
ing at the South Florida
Memorial Day Invitational
Meet. With athletes rang
ing in age from four (4) to
sixteen (16) and ranging in
experience from newcom
ers to seasoned veterans,
this weekend's accom
plishment was quite a feat!

The team will soon
compete in Augusta,
Georgia for a chance to
advance to the MU
National Championships in
New Orleans, LA. The
week-long Junior Olympic
Games hosts thousands of
athletes annually who all
strive for the distinction of
being ranked amongst the
TOP 8 in the nation.
Most of our Cheetah
veterans have achieved this
distinction in previous
championships, so they can
only hope to get better and
better with each year of
competition.

for Behaviorally Challenged
Boys (Ages 6-16) June 13th -
August 26th, 2011 (Taking
Applications Now) $25.00
Registration Fee (Non-
Refiindable) $40.00 Weekly.
The summer camp will

offer comprehensive
behavior/anger man
agement (self control) ses
sions. Temper tantrums, atti
tude adjustments, and getting
along with others sessions.
Character building, team
building, being a leader not a
follower sessions. Respecting
adult authority, being respon
sible in school and at home
sessions. Recreational, sports
activities {basketball, football
training, water and aquatic
activities, movies, field trips,
and much, much more!
Tutorial sessions for any
youth having academic strug
gles in various subject areas
are also available. The camp
is staffed by experienced, all
male certified teachers (certi
fied through the State of
Georgia, employed by the
Savannah Chatham County
Public Board of Education).
Excellent supervision will be
provided. USD A Approved
lunch/snack program.

Rose E. Sanders

Grunge N.J... departed this life
peacefully lie home on May 5.
2011. surrounded by her three
daughters, following a coura
geous nine-year battle with
cancer. Rose was bunt on Febru
ary 9, 1936. in Savannah, Ga. ihe
daughter of the late Wade M.
Simmons Sr. and Eilat) C.
Simmons. She attended Si.
Benediel Parochial School and Alfred E Beach High
School til SinamiLih. Ga. During her high school years, she
moved to New Jersey and graduated front West Side High
School in Newark, N\J. In 1954 Rose married Florence
c(dues Jr. and to this union two children were bom.
Anthony and Panic I la. In 19(C she met George IT Sanders
Sr They married in |9G9 and had [wo children. Ellen and
Tonya. Alter the sudden and uiie*]K 1 vtud death of George’s
ex wiflr. Rose happily accepted becoming ihc mother of
four mure children, George Jr.. Denise, Bruce, and Shelley,
and embraced them a* her own for the rest of heir life. In
197# ihe decided to pursue a career in real estate. She was
employed by Century 21 Realty in Sotiih Orange. N.J. as a
licensed real estate brewer achieving member ship in the
''Million Dollar Sales Club" with acknowledgment of her
sales in both Jei and Ebony Magazines. She retired 32 years
later after a most successful and rewarding career eh I he
real estate industry. Rose was admired and respected by
tluise that knew her and was revered by her family, naming
her !heir matriarch. Her love and generosity touched many
lives. She left a tasting impression upon everyone rhat had
the benefit of knowing her. Near and dear Ili her heart was
her membership in the "Bobbie SoxenT. a social club of
women who intended Beach High School. They remained
friends throughout their lift. Rose was predeceased by her
brother, Wade M. Simmons Jr., her sister Lillian C\ Curtis,
and her son Anthony J. Gaines. Rose l:. Sanders is Survived
by her brother Charles G Simmons (Georgia): sister
in-law Dons Simmons; brother-in-law William F. Curtis
Sr.: her children George H Sanders Jr.. Denise Sanders-
Brooks. Bruce l„. Sanders (Rafeeqah), Pnmclla R, Caines,
Shelley Sanders-Hunter. Ellen M. Sanders and. loiiya
Sanders-Brad berry (Clifford). 15 grandchildren; 17 yreat-
grand children, and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral
sen tees were held on May 13. 201! at The New Baptist
Church. I asl Orange. N.j, she was interred at ihe Rosedale
Cemetery, Orange. N.J
