Help to Save the W. W. Law House
W.W. Law House
The Historic Savannah
Foundation current has an
opportunity to win a grant
from the National Historic
Trust for Preservation.
The contest is called
“This Place Matters” and
Historic Savannah Foundation
has chosen the W. W. Law
House in the Cuyler-
Brownville historic district as
a place that matters to
Savannah.
The competition requires
supporters to go online and
vote for the project. Please
help us as we spread the word
to get as many people as possi
ble to vote.
The focal point of our
entry is that Historic Savannah
Foundation wants to help save
the W. W. Law House in the
Cuyler-Brownville historic
district. W. W. Law
fought for equality side-by-
side with Martin Luther King,
Jr. and worked tirelessly in
Savannah where he was the
local president of the NAACP
for 26 years and led meetings,
sit-ins, and boycotts all in the
name of equality. Law also
wanted equality in preserva
tion.
He believed in saving
and celebrating black history
and culture in Savannah. His
efforts saved a historically
African-American cemetery,
began the Savannah Negro
Heritage Trail, saved the King
Tisdell Cottage and created a
Civil Rights Museum.
Preserving Law’s home is an
equally important and appro
priate step in preserving a tan
gible element of his life. Law
fought for equality and preser
vation for his entire life and it
is now time for the citizens of
Savannah to accept the torch
and save his home.
Help Savannah win
national attention, a first place
price of $25,000 (half of
Historic Savannah
Foundation’s prize winnings
will be dedicated to stabilizing
the W.W. Law Housejand save
places that matter to all of us!
The contest runs through
June 30.
Visit www.myhsf.org to
vote and for further informa
tion on W. W. Law. (one vote
per email and all voters are
able to opt out of any further
emails).
This Place Matters, and
so do everyone’s votes!

Richards Honored During Loyalty
Program at St. Philip
Pictured from left to right are Bro. Greg Linton, 2011 Loyalty Month Chair, Rev. Dr.
John Foster, Senior Pastor of St. Phillip A.M.E. Church, and Sis. Swannie Moore
Richards, Loyalty Month Honoree.
In March of this year,
St. Philip A.M.E. Church in
Savannah, GA, where the
Rev. Dr. John Foster is
Senior Pastor, honored long
time active member and pub
lic service pioneer Mrs.
Swannie Moore Richards
during the Loyalty Joint
Worship Service ending their
Loyalty Month celebrations.
Mrs. Richards has
served as the chair of
Loyalty activities for numer
ous successful years and set
the bar extremely high for
commitment and service
rooted in the love of Christ.
While the beloved Mrs.
Richards knew about the
Loyalty Joint Worship
Service and knew that her
son, Rev. David F. Richards,
III (Pastor of St. Paul A.M.E.
in Valdosta, GA), would be
ministering the word of God,
she was not aware that she
would be graciously honored
by her family, other organi
zations of which she is a
member, and the entire
church family.
Her husband of fifty-
two years, Mr. David F.
Richards, Jr., was proudly
there to support the honoring
of his hard-working wife and
glad to have the beautiful
surprise revealed. Joining
her husband and her son and
his family, her daughter, Dr.
Bonnye Richards Anthony,
and her husband and children
along with her daughter, Ms.
Yvette K. Richards, traveled
to surprise her when she
arrived to church.
Mrs. Richards was also
surprised by the presence of
her sorority sisters of Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.,
and community persons rep
resenting the National
Council of Negro Women,
Inc., the Savannah State
University family, Top
Ladies of Distinction, Inc.,
Jack and Jill of America, Inc.,
and countless others that she
has worked with, taught,
and/or mentored through the
years.
Her church family
showered her with a book of
cards, letters, and special
words celebrating her
decades of service to St.
Philip A.M.E. Church and to
the A.M.E. church in general.
