SFES Welcomes New Recruits
Recent Graduates of the Fire & Emergency Services

comed 29 new recruits to the
ranks of Savannah Fire &
Emergency Services, as
members of SFES Recruit
Class 2011-01 took the oath
of office during an afternoon
ceremony at the Savannah
Civic Center.
The new firefighters
had just completed 14 weeks
of intensive training, which
earned each of them the
nationally recognized desig
nation of Firefighter II.
Completion of the
demanding academy training
also earned each new fire
fighter additional certifica
tions including HAZMAT
Operations, Vehicle
Extrication, Technical
Rescue and 1 st Responder.
The city manager wel
comed the new firefighters to
“the finest fire department in
the country”.
Chief Middleton
emphasized the need for
each new member of the
department to always
remember their oath and
work hard every day to
uphold the high standards of
the department and the fire
fighting profession.
During the graduation
ceremony, three members of
the class were recognized for
outstanding accomplish
ments: Jared Vaughan was
presented the class
Leadership Award, William
Oldland received the class
Academic Award and Tyler
King earned the class
Physical Fitness Award.
The class also included
three members who had
completed the fire science
program at Woodville
Tompkins Career Technical
Institute which is a joint
effort of Savannah Fire and
the Savannah Chatham
County Public Schools
System.
One member of the
class was not able to make it
to the graduation ceremony
due to a sudden illness. Chief
Middleton and Assistant
Chief Benjamin Morse
administered the oath of
office and presented him his
badge during a private meet
ing at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
He is expected to report to
his new assignment soon.

last weekend.

Quante’ Mr. R and B wins A&R Music
Summit in New York City
A preliminary event for
the Underground Music
Awards to be held in New
York City, the A&R summit
attracted hundreds of artist
from all over the world.
Quante’ Eggleston aka
“Mr. R and B”, won the
event earning him well
deserved recognition and
features in up coming edi
tions of XXL Magazine,
YoRaps and The Source.
"Quante's showman
ship and stage presence are
incredible. He's a true artist,"
raves Octavius Crouch,
A&R of Universal Records.
He won the Best R&B
Male Artist Award at the
2010 Underground Music
Awards and is nominated
again in 2011. He is also
nominated for the Best
Overall Performance this
year.
Quante’ was bom in
Baltimore Maryland. As a
young boy, his family would
pay him a few dollars to per
form at his grandmother’s
poker and pinochle games.
At age 14 he joined the
choirs at school and church.
He entered the military
in 2000 and served four
years in the marines and the
army for an additional three.
Quante’ entertained his fel
low troops and won every
talent show he entered.
His fresh and soothing
voice combined with invit
ing lyrics raises eyebrows
everywhere he performs.
“Music is an art form.” Said
Quante “It’s a form of
expression and I like
Quante’ aka
expressing life through it.”
Quante’ moved to
Savannah, Georgia in 2007
to explore the surge of the
South’s movement in the
music scene. He performed
at area showcases in
Savannah and Atlanta, win
ning many of them. He
began to devote more time
to his music and added to his
repertoire.
In 2010, Mr. R and B
committed to making music
his career. He created more
original music and became
an Ambassador for U
Hatin?® University (UHU),
an organization that pro
motes positive behavior by
neutralizing hate.
He collaborated with
artists Sir Wine and
DuRanD creating what has
become UHU’s theme song
Change This World
Together.
Mr. R and B
Quante’ was nominated for
independent R&B artist of
the year at the 2010
Southern Entertainment
Awards. He was featured
and starred in the music
video with Steeley, titled
“Put it On You.”

New Communications Chair
The Coastal Georgia
Affiliate of Susan G. Komen
for the Cure® has named
marketing and public rela
tions professional, Nikki
Troxclair, as
Communications Chair for
the Affiliate’s Board of
Directors.
Troxclair comes to the
Affiliate Board with more
than 13 years of marketing,
communications, and public
relations experience. She is
currently the Assistant
Director of Campus
Communications and
Marketing for Georgia Tech
- Savannah Campus.
In her volunteer role as
Communications Chair, she
will be responsible for all
Affiliate communications
including information on
grant opportunities,
fundraising events, and out
reach projects.

ward to working with her to
spread the word about all of
the wonderful things our
Affiliate is doing to serve the
women of coastal Georgia
and working to find a cure to
