Miracle on May Street Set for
December 17
Bogans Selected as West Savannah
Community Parade Marshal

On Saturday, December
17, 2011, from 8 am to 12 noon
hundreds of Savannah’s families
will have their Christmas wish
come hue. In a cooperative effort

Mall, Mitsubishi Power Systems,
FedEx Ground Savannah, South
University, University of
Phoenix Savannah Campus,
Armstrong Atlantic State
University, Savannah State
University, Cumulus
Broadcasting, Live Oak Public
Library, Randstad Staffing,
Savannah Sunrise Rotary Club,
Critz, Pan Hellenic Society,
Junior League of Savannah, Zeta
Phi Beta, Top Ladies of
Distinction, CPA Society of
Savannah, Hancock, Askew, and
Company, and many others, a
collection for toys, clothes,
school supplies, children’s books
and household items is under
way.
Last year over 500 children
received toys and clothes. The Y
expects the demand this year to
be even greater. The Y is located
in a very low wage earning area
of Savannah where many parents
have lost jobs, benefits, or had
their hours cut.
The Y is asking for new or gently
loved toys, clothing, books,
school supplies or “anything that
will make a kid smile”. The items
will be for children from infancy
through teens, so there really is
no limit on what can be put to
good use. This year the Y is also
accepting household items
because of the requests it as been

Donations of new toys,
books, school supplies, or clothes
can be brought to the Cumulus
Broadcasting at 214 Television
Circle or JC Penney at
Oglethorpe Mall. Donations of
new or gently used items and all
household donations can be made
at the West Broad Street YMCA

staff will do the shopping for you.
The event kicks off on
Saturday, December 17 at 8 am at
the West Broad Street YMCA
and ends at 12 noon. Parents must
bring a proof of residency (this
event is only open to Savannah
residents in the immediate area of
the Y) and a social security card
for each child (to ensure that the
toys are going to kids). One of
Santa’s elves will bring the fami
ly to the toy shop set up in the Y
gym and help them pick out their
items.

Marshal for the West
Savannah Community
Christmas Parade.
Bogans said, “I am
truly honored to serve in
this role for this annual,
family event.
International Paper works

community partner and
support our neighbors in
West Savannah, and we
are proud to be able to
continue our support dur
ing the holiday season.”
The parade will take
place on Saturday,
December 10th, begin
ning at 10:00 a.m. The
parade route will begin at
the Moses Jackson Center
and end at the Hudson
Hill Community Center.
