Johnson, Illustrious Commandress is a member of Fairmount Baptist Church. Dt. Johnson was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. She is the daughter of Harry and Thelma Bright, Sr. She actively volunteers in the community and is a member of the following: Solomon Temple Chapter #95 O. E. S., Mary H. Jones Assembly #27 Order of the Golden Circle, Omar Court #91 Daughters of Isis, Budget & Finance Committee for the Desert of Georgia and the PTA President for Haven Elementary School. She’s self-employed and the proud owner of The Kidz University. Dt. Johnson is the wife of PP Otis D. Johnson and is the proud mother of two boys, (twins) J’Quavious and J’Tavious. Omar Court #91 is a constituent member court of the Imperial Court Daughters of Isis. The Imperial Court, Daughters of Isis is the female auxiliary to the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. Brenda Pough, O.G.,Publicity Directress AASU’s Emerging Young Leaders Celebrate National Women’s History Month EYL members with Atty. Cox, Mrs. Miller, Sigma Tau members and Mrs. Audrey Singleton, Advisor Sigma Tau Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is busy plan ning activities for their Emerging Young Leaders (EYL) at Bartlett Middle School. Each month mem bers of Sigma Tau Chapter conduct activities / work shops with the young ladies. On Wednesday, March 28, 2012, the young ladies and members of the sorority held a session celebrating National Women’s History Month. This month was to showcase women in the workplace. During this session, Sigma Tau presented to the young ladies Attorney Falen O. Cox and Mrs. Melinda P. Miller. Attorney Cox is an Assistant Public Defender working with the Eastern Judicial Circuit. She present ed important information to the young ladies. Attorney Cox was impressed with the responses of the young ladies. They hope to meet and have another session during next school year. Mrs. Miller is a Social Worker for the Savannah- Chatham County School System. Bartlett Middle School is one of the schools that she serves. Mrs. Middle stressed to them the impor tance of attending school regularly and staying away from trouble. She presented the services of a school social worker also. To end her presentation, Mrs. Miller presented a skit whereas a couple of students participat ed. After the skit, they dis cussed ways that conflict could have been avoided. The EYLs will meet again on April 25, 2012. They will observe Earth Day by participating in an Environmental Stewardship Project. Mrs. Pamela West, Asst. Principal of Bartlett Middle School, attended this session. EPACT Holds 5th Annual “What’s the 411?” EPACT will hold its 5th Annual “What’s the 411?” on Saturday April 21, 2012 at the Savannah Civic Center Arena from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Preparation is Key to a Successful Future! That's why EPACT, Inc. has formed a Coalition of Community Partners going “All In" to "Reconnect our Disconnected" Youth by preparing them for sound learning and earning oppor tunities with "From Unemployment to Employment." Individuals can sign up for workshops such as resume writing, job inter view skills, job safety, and dressing for success. Satisfy your community service hours. Kyla Gwyn Presented in Junior Violin Recital Kyla Danielle Gwyn, a former native of Savannah and a junior at Middle Tennessee State University, was presented in a Junior Violin Recital on March 25, 2012 in the T. Earl Hinton Music Hall, Wright Music Building located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Kyla serenaded the audience with selections from J.S. Bach, William Grant Still and Myroslav Skoryk. She received two standing ova tions from the audience, and presented with a large bou quet of flowers. A reception was held immediately after the con cert. Kyla, a 2009 honor graduate of Central High School in Macon, Georgia, is attending MTSU on a music scholarship and majoring in Music Industry. She is also a dean's list student at MTSU.
