T he Coastal Jazz
Association presents
the 26 th Annual
Tribute to Duke Ellington
with the Savannah Jazz
Orchestra featuring Eddie
Pazant, is on Sunday, April
22nd at 5pm in the Fine Arts
Building at AASU. It is free
and open to the public.
This year, Eddie
Pazant will be the featured
guest artist. Mr. Pazant was
bom in Savannah and raised
in Beaufort, S.C. After com
pleting college, he joined the
Lionel Hampton Orchestra.
Eddie has performed with
many major artists, including
Billie Holiday, Ben Riley,
Pucho and His Latin Soul
Brothers and the George Gee
Swing Orchestra. The audi
ence will also enjoy the
vocals of Priscilla
Albergottie-Williams, who is
the Savannah Jazz
Orchestra's featured vocalist.
Ms. Albergottie-Williams
has performed both church
and secular music in superb
equilibrium. She has per
formed with trombonist,
Teddy Adams, for years.

the “High Hat Harambee
Breakfast” Saturday, April
14, 2012, 9:00 a.m. at
Savannah Marriott
Riverfront. The speaker for
this event will be Cheryl W.
Capers, the Director of
System Performance
Improvement at St.
Joseph’s/Candler Health
System here in Savannah.
Ms. Capers holds many
responsibilities in this organi
zation including planning and
directing the implementation
and analysis of all clinical
and quality improvement
activities. She coordinates all
of activities associated with
maintaining readiness for The
Joint Commission Surveys,
as well as compliance stan
dards and quality measures
associated with other regula
tory agencies, such as the

F irst Lady Michelle
Obama hosted a con
ference call with
reporters on Wednesday,
April 4th to announce a
major commitment by com
panies to partner military
spouses and veterans into
portable and flexible work
opportunities. Mrs. Obama
was joined on the call by
Joining Forces Executive
Director Brad Cooper and
Dawn Schaeffer, a military
spouse partnered with Arise
Virtual Solutions’ in the tele
work industry and residing
near Whiteman Air Force
Base, Missouri, where her
husband is stationed.
“Since we started
Joining Forces, one of our
biggest goals has been to
address employment issues
for not just our veterans but
also for our spouses. We've
made strides all along the
way, which is good news,”
Mrs. Obama said. “We've
seen a lot of people coming
together, getting much of the
private sector engaged in this
effort, from our biggest cor
porations to many of our
small businesses. And today,
we are pleased to be making
another step forward with a
meaningful commitment
that’s going to make a really
huge difference for so many
of our nation's military
spouses.”

their Mardi Gras 2012
Contestants, this Friday at
the Savannah Civic Center
Arena from 8:00 p.m.-2:30

This year’s contestants
are Mary Merritt and Idell
Biles. Mary Merritt is a
native of Savannah and a
graduate of Alfred Ely
Beach High School in 1989,
Mary attended Georgia
Southern University and the
University of Phoenix, and
she earned a B.S in
Technology Education, and
Masters in Information
Mary
Technology and
Management of Information
Systems. She is currently
employed by Gulfstream
Aerospace Corporation in
Savannah, GA as a Senior IT
Business Analyst. Mary is a
Microsoft Certified
Professional, holds numer
ous SAP certifications, and
is a member of Women in
Merritt
Aviation International.
Mary is the mother of one
daughter, Jada, who is a sen
ior at Andrews High School.
In 2010, Mary established the
First All Alumni Picnic ever
for Beach High School in
Savannah. There were over
1400 attendees present the
first year. She is also an
active team captain for Team
