one disease killer in the U.S.
of children under the age of
18. Unfortunately, pediatric
cancer receives a very small
percentage of the National
Cancer Institute’s $4.8 bil
lion annual budget and
almost no research and
development dollars from
pharmaceutical companies.
All proceeds go to pediatric
cancer research.

Applications for the 2012
Earl T. Shinhoster Youth
Leadership Institute are
being accepted now through
June 1 for youth ages 12-16.
The Institute will be held on
July 23-27, from 9:00 am -
5:00 pm at the Ralph Mark
Gilbert Civil Rights
Museum. The program is
designed to assist youth with
discovering their potential as
leaders in their homes,
schools, religious organiza
tions and communities. The
registration fee is $100.00.

event serves as the founda
tion’s annual fundraiser with

Society, the M.D. Anderson
Cancer Research Center and
the Island Recreation
Scholarship Fund. Admission

4th Annual Tour de
Kids
The 4th Annual Tour de
Kids, a bicycle tour around
the park to raise money for
homeless children, will take

style activities in the park.
