BUTLER RECEIVES NURSING
EDUCATION AWARD
Last Wednesday, the First City Chapter of the
Georgia Nurses Association honored Savannah Technical
College Instructor Betty Butler with the Excellence in
Nursing Education Award. This was one of five categories
of awards at the awards ceremony, and it was the first time an
instructor from Savannah Technical College has received an
award from the First City Chapter GNA.
“Students love Betty’s enthusiasm to teach and the excel
lence she provides as a nurse mentor,” said STC Practical
Nursing Program Director Asha Anumolu. “Betty is organ
ized and focused on whatever she is assigned to teach.”
Anumolu nominated Butler for her hard work, dedica
tion and team player approach to the STC Practical Nursing
program. Butler has been a practical nursing instructor at
STC for more than three years.
She has a wealth of clinical experience and a medical-sur
gical background, having worked as a clinical nurse special
ist for St. Joseph’s/Candler in the Medical/Surgical services.
She was also a charge nurse for Hospice Savannah and
worked as a nurse in the neuro intensive care unit and the
telemetry unit for Memorial Health University Medical
Center.
Chatham County Aquatic Center will
participate in the World's Largest
Swimming Lesson
Thousands of children around the globe are participat
ing in The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ to help beat
the second leading cause of unintended, injury related death
of children ages 1-14. We estimate 50 children and their fam
ilies will be on site at the Chatham County Aquatic Center to
participate in this global event.
We are taking registration for this free event now.
Children ages 3 and older including adults can participate in
the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ Guinness World
Record attempt. Call the Aquatic Center to register.
The inaugural WLSL event established the Guinness
World Record™ for the largest simultaneous swimming les
son ever conducted in 2010 to build awareness about the vital
importance of teaching children to swim to prevent drown
ing.
The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ was created
to spread the word that Swimming Lessons Save Lives™ -
tragically, drowning is the second leading cause of unintend
ed, injury related death of children ages 1-14. Research
shows if a child doesn’t learn to swim before the 3rd grade,
they likely never will. Register now.

PASTOR SMALLS' CELEBRATED 50
YEARS OF PREACHING
AND TEACHING THE WORD
On Sunday, May 20, 1962, the scripture from Jeremiah
chapter 1 verse 5 was fulfilled in the life of Pastor Nathaniel
Small sr., when he preached his initial sermon at St. Mark
Baptist Chinch under the late Pastor P. H. Hunter. He was
ordained into the Ministry on Sunday, March 31, 1963.The
Lord has blessed Pastor Small to have pastored churches in
the cities of Savannah, McIntosh County, Daisy Georgia and
St. Helena Island, South Carolina. At age 22 he pastored his
first church, Mt Pilgrim Baptist Church (Canebrick Road)
with 13 members, realizing what the Word of God says
“being faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over
many.” From there the Lord has truly blessed him to stand
and preach His uncompromising Gospel that saved and
changed the lives of so many.
On Sunday, May 20, 2012, Associate pastor, Minister
Clara Rouse and the New Salem Community Fellowship
Church Family honored Pastor Small and God blessed
their desire to celebrate Pastor Smalls' 50 years preach
ing and teaching the word of God by hosting an appreci
ation dinner in his honor at the Hilton Garden Inn.
Pastor Small's children were also in attendance. His daughter
Mrs. Annette Brown and her husband Minister Greg Brown
of Jacksonville, Florida shared reflections on the life of a
Father with a “heart for God”. His daughter Mrs. Angela
Bacon of Indianapolis Indiana called with a special message
of love and adoration for her father. The tribute continued
with a humorous reflection by his youngest daughter Sgt.
Facquita Small-Lloyd as she shared a pre-sermon routine of
her father that very few people were aware of. Finally, Pastor
Nathaniel Small Jr., sang a tribute to his father, “I have
learned to live Holy”, and reflected on the special love he has
for his father.
There were many others in attendance with well wishes and
congratulations.
