Savannah, Israel Talk Business
During Visit
Uriel Lynn, President of the Federation of the Israeli Chambers of Commerce, speaks at a Monday news confer
ence, surrounded by city officials and community leaders.
Savannah and Israeli
officials wrapped up three
full days of information
sharing designed to develop
business ties between the
two markets.
Uriel Lynn, President
of the Federation of the
Israeli Chambers of
Commerce; Opher Aviran,
Israeli Consul General to the
Southeast United States; and
other officials from Israel
visited Savannah at the invi
tation of Mayor Edna
Jackson, who traveled to
Israel in May for the
International Conference of
Mayors.
“I was under the
impression that during her
trip, Mayor Jackson really
discovered Israel,” said
Lynn, who met with the
Mayor in Israel to talk inter
national trade. “From now
on we’re going to make sure
that the business people of
Israel discover Savannah.”
Lynn, one of Israel’s
top economic development
leaders, toured the Georgia
Ports, received presentations
from the Savannah
Economic Development
Authority and World Trade
Center Savannah, addressed
the Savannah Rotary Club
and met with Savannah busi
ness owners about opportu
nities to expand into the
Israeli market.
“I am impressed not
just with this city’s history,
but the economic potential of
Savannah,” he said. “We
want to expose business in
Israel to business in
Savannah.”
The city of Savannah
and the Savannah Economic
Development Authority have
been increasingly targeting
international business devel
opment to help grow
Savannah’s economy. Last
year the city created the
Greater Savannah
International Alliance to
advise Council on interna
tional affairs and strategy. At
the same time, SEDA created
World Trade Center
Savannah to focus its inter
national economic develop
ment actions.
“I am convinced we
have only scratched the sur
face of economic opportuni
ties between Savannah and
Israel,” Mayor Jackson said.
“I look forward to a long and
prosperous relationship that
will benefit business on both
sides of the ocean.”
