2012 Week Begins Oct. 14
Savannah State Uni
versity (SSU) will celebrate
Homecoming 2012 Oct. 14-
21 with a slate of events for
students, alumni and the com
munity. This year’s Home
coming celebratory theme is
“We Are One SSU: Catch the
Fever.”
Expected to attract
thousands of Tiger fans from
around the country, Home
coming week culminates
with the annual parade and
football game on Oct. 20,
when the SSU Tigers take on
the Edward Waters College
Tigers at 2 p.m. at Theodore
A. Wright Stadium. General
admission game tickets are
$15 for youth and $29-$34
for adults.
The celebration
week begins Oct. 14 with
SSU Day at St. Philip Monu
mental AME Church, located
at 1112 Jefferson St. SSU
Pres. Cheryl D. Dozier will
be the guest speaker at the
service, which begins at 11
a.m., and the SSU Wesleyan
Gospel Choir will perform.
On Oct. 18, Tiffany
Hallback, a senior business
management major from
Austell, Ga., will be crowned
Miss Savannah State Uni
versity 2012-13 during the
queen’s coronation, which is
free and open to the public.

also be presented during the
ceremony, which begins at 7
p.m. at Tiger Arena.
Homecoming day
starts with the annual parade
through downtown Savannah
beginning at 9 a.m. This year’s
parade grand marshals are
Jacquelyn Stephens (’60) of
Savannah, Ga., and Lawrence
Young (’48) of Lumpkin,
Ga., both retired educators.
Honorary parade marshals
include Ruben Chiza, a two-
term Student Government
Association president who
graduated in May 2012, and
Horace Broadnax, Tiger bas
ketball head coach.
