Savannah Children’s Choir to offer
Master Class
We Could Not Have Done it

dren’s Choir’s 2012-2013
theme is “Singers are Story
tellers’’.
To help choir mem
bers and other singers in the
community better tell their
stories, baritone Gregory
Gerbrandt was selected as
this season’s Artist in Resi
dence. Gerbrandt is lauded
for his ability to passionately
communicate a variety of
roles.
In addition to work
ing with the SCC in an open
rehearsal, Gerbrandt will pro
vide services to local schools,
host a Master Class for high-
school and college singers,
and perform a benefit concert
as the culmination of his resi
dency.
A Master Class is
scheduled for Thursday, No
vember 8 from 6:30-8:30 at
St. Paul’s, 34th & Abercorn.
The Master Class will pro
vide currently-enrolled high
school and college vocal ma
jors a chance to perform for
and work with a professional
opera singer, who will review
and critique their work.
From the pool of
applicants, eight singers will
be selected to join the Master
Class.
This Master Class
opportunity is only open to
currently-enrolled full-time
high-school or college vocal
or music majors. Application
materials and instructions are
available on the SCC’s web
site, www.savannahchoir.org
. Completed applications are
due October 22, and singers
will be notified of their selec
tion by Wednesday, October
31.

designs submitted by stu
dents in the elementary, mid
dle, high school and college
categories from Chatham,
Effingham, Liberty, and
neighboring counties. The
exhibition will be on display
at the City of Savannah’s
Gallery S.P.A.C.E. from now

Contest is held each spring
and students are challenged
to create a poster that may be
used in the promotion of the
Annual Savannah Children’s
Book Festival. This year’s
Children’s Book Festival is
set for Saturday, Nov. 10,
2012, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
at Forsyth Park in Savannah.
The eighth annual festival
celebrates the joy of reading,
the power of the written word
and the magic of storytelling
with children’s book authors
and illustrators from around
the country. The festival will
also include more than 60
Coastal Authors, arts and
crafts, an International Tent,
a variety of food and enter
tainment, a Book Walk and
graphic novel/comics area.
The exhibition is
free and open to the public.
S.P.A.C.E. is located at 9 W.
Henry St. Gallery hours are
Monday through Friday, 9
a.m. to 5 p.m. Free off-street

SCCPSS Seeks Public Input Regarding
the SY 2013-2014 Calendar
On Oct. 10, 2012,
the District Calendar Com
mittee convened and devel
oped a proposed academic
calendar for School Year
2013-2014. This proposed
calendar would begin the
school year on Thursday,
August 8, 2013 and end the
school year on Friday, May
23, 2014. Highlights from
the proposed academic cal
endar are as follows: 180
student days with 90 days
per semester (will work
with 4x4, A/B, or Tradi
tional Schedules), marking
periods separated at logical
break points and more. This
proposed calendar is now be
ing posted for public review
and comment prior to a final
Committee recommendation
being made to the Board of
Public Education for the City
of Savannah and the County
of Chatham.

come mothers and mothers-

area. The drop off donations
will help support efforts to
ensure low-income mothers
have the necessities to care
for their infants and toddlers.
