Missionary Baptist Church.
The candidates were Apostle
Dr. Kelvin M. Brown, who
accepted his Apostolic Seat in
the Episcopate of the Eccle
siastical Body and Assistant
over Jurisdictional District of
The Southeastern States and
19 churches and ministries.
Pastor Rose Johnson Wil
liams accepted her position
as pastor and Evangelist San
dra T. Addison completes the
operation of The Five-Fold
Ministry at Grace and Mercy
Full Gospel Ministries.
The order of service
included Apostle-Elect Dr.
Sylvia Shipman as Presider,
Cynthia Jones did a praise
and worship service, Deacon
Dexter Scott read the Old
Testament, and Pastor Ellie
Nickelson read the new tes
tament. Bishop Robert Jones
performed a prayer, a selec
tion was rendered by Sis La-
tesia and Sis. Delores Brin
son, words of encouragement
were shared by Missionary
Louise Miller Cohen, the spo
ken word was delivered by
Apostle Raymond L. Martin
and a musical tribute “ I Give
My Self Away” was given
by Bro. Thomas Duncan, Bro
Rufus Bryant and Bro David
Ashlee.

positions. Collectively, they
bring more than 70 years of
experience with the City of
Savannah to their new roles.
Chief Financial Of
ficer Richard “Dick” Evans
has been named Acting As
sistant City Manager for
Administrative and Commu
nity Services. As one of two
Assistant City Managers, he
will advise the Acting City
Manager on city wide issues.
He will also be responsible
for two bureaus — Manage
ment Services and Commu
nity & Economic Develop
ment - which house a total of
28 departments.

Taffanye Young
Taffanye Young has been
promoted to Community and
Economic Development Bu
reau Chief. In this capacity,
she will oversee much of the
City’s neighborhood devel
opment programs, includ
ing Housing, Community
Planning and Development,
Economic Development,
the Citizen Office and Real
Property Services. She will
also oversee the administra
tion of funds to a number of
City-supported social service
agencies.
Ms. Young began
working for the City of Sa
vannah in 1993 as a Neigh
borhood Services Coordi
nator. She was promoted in
1994 to Director of the Com
munity Services Department,
and in 2000 to the Director
of Community Planning and
Development.
Cam Mathis
Cam Mathis has been named
Director of Information
Technology. Ms. Mathis has
worked in the IT Department
since 1995, serving as senior
systems analyst; IT Admin
istrator, where she managed
Network Services and Ap
plication Services; as well as
Acting Director since Febru
ary 2011.
Ms. Mathis previ
ously served as Environ
mental Coordinator in the
Sanitation Bureau and GIS
Coordinator in the Engineer
ing Department.
She earned her mas
ter’s degree in city planning
from Georgia Institute of
Technology, and bachelor’s
degree from the University of
the South in Sewanee, Tenn.

Coastal Georgia Susan G. Komen for the
Cure Announces Request for Proposals
The Coastal Geor
gia Affiliate of Susan G. Ko
men for the Cure® has an
nounced the availability of
grant funding for 2013-2014
to increase breast cancer edu
cation, screening, treatment,
and support services in our
local community. Funds will
be awarded to nonprofit or
ganizations, governmental
agencies and educational in
stitutions located in Bryan,
Bulloch, Camden, Chatham,
Effingham, Glynn, Liberty,
Long and McIntosh Coun
ties.
Grants are made
possible through a number of
affiliate fundraisers including
the Komen Savannah Race
for the Cure. Since its incep
tion, the Coastal Georgia Af
filiate has invested more than
$ 1 Million in community
breast health programs. Lip
to 75 percent of net proceeds
generated by the Affiliate stay
in Coastal Georgia and the
remaining 25 percent helps
to fund national breast can
cer research. In early 2012,
the Coastal Georgia Affili
ate granted $287,000 to lo
cal community programs that
offered a number of services
including free mammograms
and diagnostics, navigation
programs and supporting
women who have been diag
nosed with breast cancer.
The Coastal Geor
gia Affiliate works with local
health care professionals and
community leaders to con
duct a comprehensive com
munity needs assessment in
order to ensure proper fund
ing of community based
programs. This community
profile, a standard practice of
all Komen Affiliates, is used
to establish a local grant ap
plication and review process
consistent with the organi
zation’s standards and mis
sion. In addition to funding
research, organizations ap
plying for grant funding are
strongly encouraged to attend
one of the two Grant-Writing
workshops hosted by Komen
Coastal Georgia at the Sa
vannah United Way on No
vember 6 through November
15 from 2:00pm-6:00pm.
Grant applications
must be completed online
by 5:00 p.m. on December
14, 2012. Announcements
of funding will be made in
F ebruary 2013. Funding
disbursements will begin in
