Alpha Lambda Boule’ Holds Fall Social Catered By Culinary Students
On Sunday, Oct.
7, 2012, students from the
Woodville-Tompkins High
School Culinary Arts pro
gram catered the Fall Social
for Alpha Lambda Boule’
of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity,
Inc. The Clubhouse at God-
ley Station was transformed
into a warm, autumnal scene
for the occasion. It was a
perfect complement to the
artistic food creations of the
burgeoning chefs.
Guests from Michi
gan, Virginia, North Carolina
and locally from Savannah
and Hilton Head were im
pressed by the professional
ism of the students and the
delightful presentation of
prepared food. Multiple
serving stations were ar
ranged in the grand room
of the clubhouse and on the
covered patio. One visit
ing guest commented, “The
chicken marsala was as good
as any fine restaurant’s ver
sion.’’ The students and the
food were an exemplary re
flection of the culinary arts
program at Woodville-Tomp
kins High School.
At the end of the
evening, Sire Archon Otis
Johnson presented Wood
ville-Tompkins High School
principal, A1 McGuire, a
$500 check in support of the
program. Each member of
the high school catering team
shared heartfelt comments
about their love for prepar
ing food and the hard work
required for an event like the
Alpha Lambda Boule Fall
Social. Sire Archon Johnson
congratulated the students on
their efforts along with all of
the attending Archons and
their guests encouraged each
of them to vigorously pursue
their dreams.
Established in 1904,
Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity is
considered by many to be
the most prestigious organi
zation of African American
men in the nation. The na
tional Fraternity is known
as the Grand Boule, and the
Fraternity’s national conven
tion is also called the Grand
Boule. Individual members
are called “Archons,” and
each local group of Archons
is called a “member boule.”
A few of the well-known
Archons included W. E. B.
Dubois, Martin Luther King,
Jr. and Benjamin E. Mayes.
In addition to sponsoring
high quality social activi
ties, the Fraternity provides
college scholarships through
the Boule Foundation, and is
involved in numerous social
action projects. The member
boule in Savannah, Alpha
Lambda Boule, was char
tered in 1963.
