The Impossible Dream
One of my fat'oiite musical is the “Man of La
Mancha" which features the
principal song. "The Impos
sible Dream.'" Jailed during
the Spanish Inquisition lor
offendrng the church, author
Miguel de Cervantes is- forced
id act out one of hi; manu
scripts far ±e entertainment
af fellow inmates. There he
tells the story of Don Quixote
the chivalrous blight whose
choice to see lit as Lt should
be, nor as it is, take: him into
battle; ^ith an imaginary foe
Don QuhrQie, in his insanity,
was able to me beauty in the mis; of a cbaouc world.
I too, choose to see the world as it should be rather
than the reality that hits me in the face on a daily basis.
I watch the neighborhood kids around the church walk tu
school and in my mind I imagine the great things they nil!
accomphsh. I imagine them coming from Losing homes,
where both parents- are there and engaged in their children's
lives. I imagine them going into a classroom where their
teacher is exerted about educating all children and ensuring
they have ±e fundamentals that are needed m succeed in
society.
I see a v'orld where the churches., on every comer,
are concerned about ±e welfare of humanity as a whole
and not building hide individual kingdoms. I see a place
where the hungry is fed, the naked is clothed and the sick is
nsited.
Just like Don Quixote. I am awaken with, a heavy
dose of crime, violence, hate, selfishness and irresponsibil
ity. These are the words that fueled his insanity to see this
world as Lt should be, not as it is:
“To dream the impossible dream. To fight the un
beatable foe. To bear with unbearable sorrow. To run where
the brave dare not go. lb right the urjigbtabLe vsnong. To
love pure and chaste from afar. To try when your arms are
mo neary. T: reach the unreachable star.
This is my quest, to follow that scar. No matter
how hopeless, no matter how far To fight for the right,
without question or pause, lb be nillLngtomarchima Hell,
for a Heavenly cause.
And the world will be better for this: That one
man, scorned and covered with scars, Still strove, with his
last ounce of courage. To reach the unreachable star.
