Honorees Announced as Savannah Kicks
Off Jingle Bell Run, Walk for Arthritis
The 2nd Annual
Arthritis Foundation Jingle
Bell Run/Walk in Savannah
will begin when registration
opens at 8:am at The Islands
YMCA on Saturday, Nov. 17.
Event parking is at Islands
High School with free shuttle
service to the YMCA.
Register teams by
visiting www.jbrwsavan-
nah.kintera.org or by call
ing the local office at (678)
237-4444. This community
event is a great way to kick
off the holiday season by do
ing something fun to light the
nation’s leading cause of dis
ability.
Volunteer organiz
ers expect more than 200 run
ners and walkers to take part
in the Savannah event, and
they aim to raise $35,000.
Leading the ef
forts for this year’s event are
5-year-old Lola, the 2012
Junior Honoree. Lola was
diagnosed with juvenile at
just three years of age. Dr.
Mark Winchell of Savannah
Bone and Joint is serving as
the event’s Honorary Chair.
Arthritis is much more wide
spread than imagined, affect
ing 50 million Americans,
roughly one out of five adults,
and approximately 300,000
children. In Georgia, more
than 1.6 million adults and
nearly 9,200 children have a
doctor-diagnosed form of ar
thritis.
“The prevalence of
arthritis in our nation is surg
ing, and we cannot ignore it,’’
says Robin Thompson and
Denise Nelson, Volunteer
Event Co-Chairs. “Events
like the Jingle Bell Run/Walk
for Arthritis help bring the
community together to raise
awareness and funds that are
critical to the advancement
of research, health education
and government advocacy.’’
As the nation’s larg
est holiday run/walk event,
the Arthritis Foundation’s
Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Ar
thritis offers a five kilometer
run and a one-mile fun run/
walk.
Statistics show that
walking for 30 minutes regu
larly, can greatly reduce your
risk for certain forms of ar
thritis. So sign up and join
one of the nearly 150 Jingle
Bell Run/Walks for Arthritis
nationwide and spread some
cheer by helping to prevent
arthritis this holiday season.
Meg supports outreach programs for community
youth through education, mentoring, and
collaboration with the school system,
juvenile court and criminal justice agencies.
